This manager has been a manager for over 8 years. I do have additional responsibilities and but i’m not given space to flex and to truly own.
8 Years at M level? that's way too long by about 5 years. which firm? also, sorry about the situation then, looks like best you can do is do your work and move on. I am sure a lot of people would say talk to him/her, but honestly I'd be skeptical.
Is this a newly promoted manager? sometimes there is a transition time from Senior/Individual Contributor -> M. sucky place to be for sure, however I'd recommend that you make sure you anticipate his / her quirks and things that they usually call you out on and address them beforehand to gain the confidence from their part that everything doesn't need to be double/triple checked and fixed. In my experience, I usually identify the candidates that can run solo and give them additional opportunities to perform at the next level, while closely monitor the ones that give me heartburn - regardless of level.
