How do you stay calm and polite when your manager doesn’t give you any autonomy to manage the work, doesn’t let you talk in front of the client & discards your ideas? How do you perform at next level?

This manager has been a manager for over 8 years. I do have additional responsibilities and but i’m not given space to flex and to truly own.

8 Years at M level? that's way too long by about 5 years. which firm? also, sorry about the situation then, looks like best you can do is do your work and move on. I am sure a lot of people would say talk to him/her, but honestly I'd be skeptical.

Is this a newly promoted manager? sometimes there is a transition time from Senior/Individual Contributor -> M. sucky place to be for sure, however I'd recommend that you make sure you anticipate his / her quirks and things that they usually call you out on and address them beforehand to gain the confidence from their part that everything doesn't need to be double/triple checked and fixed. In my experience, I usually identify the candidates that can run solo and give them additional opportunities to perform at the next level, while closely monitor the ones that give me heartburn - regardless of level.

Feeling so frustrated, exhausted, and just all around bleh this week from a combo of a stressful new project, pandemic fatigue, and the incredibly bleak pandemic dating situation. I’m so grateful it’s a long weekend but trying to figure out what to do (while stay at home of course) this weekend to try and re-energize so that next week is a better one. Does anyone have any suggestions??

Any good recommended books on how to build a scalable product and team? I'm looking for recommendations for two areas: 1) in general laying the groundwork in a startup to have the tools and especially processes in place to scale, and 2) tactical focus on building a SaaS project. I've been promoted into a management role from Dev roots, so need to learn more PM processes to be an effective manager in day job, plus would like to start building my own SaaS solution.

On my 3rd job in 2 years (consultant for a year, then left for a new company that was impacted by COVID). My new role is not very interesting and can be very pigeon holed at times.
