How do you stay proud of B2B work? After a while, working on the machinery that runs the world stopped doing it for me

I totally get it. Sounds like it may be time for a pivot.

I lead B2B Decision Science at Glassdoor and previously led product and DS in a B2B analytics startup. I like to think about the people who work at companies — when someone goes to their job every day, if I can help make it more interesting, efficient or impactful for them, that feels like a win. Also, for Glassdoor, one of the reasons I joined was that I had used it as a consumer and found it to be a valuable consumer product. However, our revenue comes from employers, so the world couldn’t have the value of Glassdoor as a free consumer product unless we also delivered value to our employer customers. Helping people everywhere find a job and company they love is also helping companies find people who will love working there. So, all in all, I’d say B2B can feel less sexy than B2C but if you can get close to the customers, you can see you’re still making a product to enhance people’s lives — it’s just that you’re enhancing their work life rather than their personal life.

I’m just here for the 🤑🤑🤑

Preach.

I have worked B2B my entire career and I understand entirely. The work I am doing today is largely the same work was doing years ago. Queries, tables, dashboards, etc. The same problems and the same solutions. What is more, I am now silo'ed, even if I wanted to move into consumer tech I doubt I'd get hired. At least it pays well.

I realize that behind businesses are people. If your product or service is making their life easier, that's a win. So, guess it boils down to whether what you are selling is legit

I’m creating comp benchmarks to make a case to leadership that we need to increase our base pay band for an associate position we’re hiring (I am currently a manager at a tech startup). Would love it if people who recently got an offer from a tech company in the corporate strategy / BizOps team could comment their base offer and YOE (ideally looking for 1-3 YOE comps) and the company. I want to fight to pay my associate more!! Thanks all
