How do you stop hating the agency that laid you off, even after you got a better job? I don’t know why I’m still sour.

Don’t waste energy on it. Rather, put it into your work and towards forwarding your career.

Don't beat yourself up if you can't get over it. If you can't get over it, you can't. If it is personal to you, it is. Feel it. Life is full of feelings. Don't let others tell you not to feel. If you feel it, it's your feelings. Acknowledge what you feel. That's how you deal with it. There is nothing wrong with taking it personally. Nothing wrong with not getting along with others, so you decide to close that door (or someone called or burn the bridge). Yes, the industry is small, but no... that does not mean you should compromise your feelings. Life is too short. You are what you are, burn the bridge if you want to. Feel if you want to.

Time takes time. Took me two years the first time. Then the next time, it got easier. Also, prayer/meditation.

I'm in the same position. It sucks, but you'll move past it. An old boss told me "Nothing in business is ever personal," plus like others mentioned it was most likely a numbers decision. Also, sour thoughts like that won't benefit you in the future, and it's in the past so nothing you do now can change it. This is a very small industry and the last thing you want to do is to burn bridges, you never know who you'll work with again.

Same. 9 years. Not so much the agency, but the CD there.

Same. It is hard not to take it personally.

Recognize that there are people stuck at a place that, by your admission, was less good than where you are now. What that CCO did wasn’t cool but you don’t ever have to think about them/that agency again if you don’t want to. It might take some time but you seem to have landed on your feet which is better than lots of folks!

Unless you have reason to believe otherwise, just assume it’s a money decision and move on. Can’t get mad at numbers, right?

Our CCO basically laid off all the juniors...it was a small agency. And he has trust issues/gives briefs to his favorite CD team.

Same though.

Take their clients. Then they have layoffs. Then hire their people.

The Buddhists like to say that anger is “a burning coal you hold in your fist.” In other words, holding onto it only hurts you. On the other hand, forgiving the agency doesn’t help them in any way — it only helps you move on. So why not just do it and get on with your life.

It fuels me. In advertising, it’s possible to conduct yourself with grace. But nowhere does it say you have to turn the other cheek.

You’re right, thanks everyone! Yeah tbh I love everyone there....it’s the CCO I’m no longer a fan of, and his love for taking opportunities away/not mentoring like he promised in our interview.

Sometimes all someone has to teach you is the wrong way of doing things. Remember how they made you feel when you’re in a position of power and do better.

Does anyone use a “career coach” not necessarily a head hunter but someone who helps you get thinking. This is potential end goals, these are steps to take in your career, these are where your interests lie, this would be a good fit you see the idea. The other side of helping find the job, negotiating salary and other services would be the nice to have but I’m looking more for the coach. If you have used them what’s your experience? Worth the cost?
