How do you survive 70-80 hour work weeks when you’re sick?

You shouldn’t have to work 50+ hours a week on a consistent basis. Either change your team, firm or profession. Nothing is worth wringing joy from work on top of ruining your physical/mental health. If it is a go-live situation, talk to PM and find coverage for you until you are better

Had flu+strep throat due to bad immune system caused by no sleep and high stress. Manager asked me to fly in and work for team optics... It was the final straw for me, so I went straight to our team room (sharing is caring) and sat right next to the manager while looking like death. During a coughing fit I gagged and was immediately sent to the hotel until I felt better 😂

likefunny

The flight is the worst torture. Once you’re there, I wouldn’t go to the hotel room, I’d cough right on his face and leave a nice wad of phlegm on his laptop and say “excuse me.” Then follow him like a leech. Make sure to get it in his laptop bag so he can take it back to his wife and make her sick instead.

Slept for 3 days straight, hotel installed a humidifier for me and I only woke up to call for room service / tea haha probably recovered quicker in the hotel thanks to all the support :)

Dude, don’t run yourself even sicker. Talk to your lead and GTFO to rest

Rest! Because if you get any sicker you aren’t worth a darn and will possibly have to take more time away.

Hey 🐠, looking for some advice - what’s the best way to approach a conversation with a more junior team member about being out of office frequently? Since they were hired back in May they’ve taken off 1-2 days per week for various reasons (plus 1.5 weeks for vacation)… I understand that things come up, people get sick, etc. but it’s impacting delivery / I never know when they will ping in the morning and say that they won’t be in so I have to have someone else, or me, pick up the slack…

Junior working with ex v5 senior in M&A. He consistently asks me to turn major deliverables at the worst hours, think 10 pm Friday/Sat/Sun night “tonight” or “by tomorrow morning” even when there is no closing date in sight. When I push back he says my behavior is unacceptable. The times when I have been able to actually meet his expectations and give him the deliverable for review, he will get back to me with comments at least a week later. Sick of these false deadlines. Does anyone have a good way of dealing with sudden rushes of anxiety? I get anxious really easily before any medical exam/large meetings where I have to speak/presentations.
