Focus on 2-3 stars on Glassdoor, and take 1 star with a grain of salt, and sort by most recent. Pay attention to recurring themes - I’ve seen companies with lots of “disgruntled” employees but if they’re all saying the same issue in different ways then it’s probably a real issue there.
I ask them to describe the culture, what sets their culture apart from other companies, what they like the best about the culture compared to other places they’ve worked, what their favorite thing about working there is. If there are certain things you really care about (professional development, feedback, etc) then ask questions related to that. I personally care a lot about professional development so I always ask how the company and hiring manager approach the professional growth of their people.
You can usually tell if employees seem frantic and stressed. But I like to ask everyone who interviews me what they like about where they work. The answers (and how long it takes them to answer) speak volumes.
