SOS really need help making the decision to stay in big4 or leaving. I am being given the opportunity to work at FAAS at EY and I currently work as an auditor for a different big4. I want REAL work life balance and a more dynamic role. Can anyone candidly speak about the FAAS practice at EY—pros and cons? EY

I write literally everything. Then I almost never read them. I write post it’s of the points I want to make so I don’t forget and don’t feel the need to interrupt.
I do the same!

Prepare and understand the topics for the meeting. Then confirm your understanding throughout the meeting. Write only the new stuff you didn’t know or stuff that contradicted what you initially thought. Don’t write everything down.
Record that ish
Recording is helpful. I had a partner that recorded a call once. So glad she did because I forgot to. She didn’t want to email the file for obvious reasons so we just air dropped it later. So helpful.
Two different approaches: type as they speak and then clean up the notes after the meeting or paraphrase after main points are discussed.
Type as they speak and then organize notes
Transcript style
If you missed something, try to rephrase with a question to get clarification. At the end of the meeting, recap with main points and confirm any action items.
My issue is I get distracted with other work or pings in the middle of meetings and then lose parts of what ppl say
People on the call pinging me with side comments is the worst!
If possible, bring an intern or associate who can type fast to the meeting so you can focus entirely on engaging and listening. If you are an associate or intern, you probably aren’t the one doing most of the talking anyway.
We had an intern that was shocked ppl can type fast
I type as they speak and then fluff it up right after meeting. I highlight action items red or bold during discussion to keep them fresh for after call.

Going have to type fast. My job as an intern was to transcribe everything said in meetings. Had to type fast as hell.
How did you do it in college?
That explains it
i’ve learned over time not to take everything down verbatim- you miss the conversation and are too busy writing. just jot down key points
My notes are messy.....very messy.
Tell them you are taking notes. Ask for clarifications. Don’t try to speed type and actually miss the conversation.
It takes practice and time
Just type notes as you speak. How fast are they actually talking?
I make a lot of stuff up..,.
Try to not write every single thing said down and focus on higher level topics and decisions/conclusions
