How do you think Covid will or should impact med school instruction or resident training?

I think it has already had a significant impact but will also continue to do so. It’s kind of been a mixed picture though depending on the area and it’s healthcare situation. For example a small percentage of our medical schools (in areas where the need for practitioners was high) graduated their MS4s “early” to add to the resident workforce during these times. I personally saw this happen with 1 group in NYC and think it was for the best. Not that a fresh MS4 was the hero we all needed who was going to fix the world but they picked up on things impressively fast and were helpful in an overloaded system. At my own institution right now which was a lighter hit system we have discontinued all nonessential teaching services until the next academic year for now including all allied health, medical students etc. Resident training wise I think residents were also expected to step up during these times and I saw a few hospitals In harder hit regions deploy resident run “JR staff” teams where senior residents ran their own teams and checking out to a qualified attending. As far as the future I think many medical schools in the country have already begun the process, if not completely shifted, to a virtual classroom especially in the first two years of basic sciences, this crises will solidify that and I believe it will be the new norm. I also think this worldwide pandemic will bring more interest into the healthcare field in general with more applicants and future doctors and healthcare practitioners applying we will need more schools etc. Unfortunately in the short term I think many students and trainees will see their exposure and responsibilities decreased out of concern for transmission but that the demand, motivation, and infrastructure will ultimately improve as a result of all that we learned

Having some severe Executive Dysfunction atm. I can't imagine that the patent attorney bowl here is short on the neurodivergent. Suggestions/tips/tricks/advice are all appreciated. I recently moved, bought my first home, got vaccinated, etc. - basically just a huge load of stressful events that are probably doing a number on my brain, but I also just can't seem to get on top of.

Please, if you're neurotypical, think thrice before posting - I'm not normal, and want help, not stress or dismiss

Starting an anti-depressant for the first time in my life tomorrow, after struggling with depression for my entire life (every second of all 37 years.) I was so against medication (due to family history of addiction) but I read so many positive comments on this bowl about how they’ve been life changing for people. I’m really, really optimistic but thinking maybe I should lower my expectations. What kind of mindset should I have as I start tomorrow? Will it really be as life changing as I hope?

My husband and I have gone through all of the preliminary fertility testing with our RE - so blood work, Karyotype testing, baseline bloodwork and ultrasound on day 3 of cycle, HSG test, sperm analysis, and a genetic screen. Did anyone who got Moderna vaccine get a flare up of seborrheic dermatitis?

I got my first flare up of this autoimmune condition 5 days after my first Moderna dose and it’s only gotten worse since (I have been doing treatment). I was doing some research online how covid patients in hospitals got the condition so I wasn’t sure if it would be related to the 2 doses of Moderna vaccine. Just thought I would ask if it happened to anyone else.

Maybe it was just a coincidence too

The station I work at is down at least 15 positions. Some jobs have been open for two years.

The remaining staff is required to step up.

Additional positions are opening up as contracts are either broken or expire.

How are people able to keep their mental health up when their station isn’t hiring people they need and refuse to pay living wages to potential prospects or promote those remaining?

I finally got diagnosed with ADD, inattentive type, at 28 years old. I’ve known I had depression and anxiety for years, but the symptoms and treatment never added up. It took WFH in a pandemic to realize maybe I had ADD, and still months of being dismissed and made to feel like I was crazy before I found a doctor to administer the MMPI. I feel validated, finally, but I can’t help feeling grief too over so much lost potential and unnecessary failure, especially in law school and my career.
