Idk....but Accenture is the preferred vendor for website development for one of our clients. I can confirm they are the WORST to deal with. Many of their practices are very behind and they take incredibly long to do minor updates. In addition to this, it takes several rounds of back and forth to get anything right. Our client ended up creating "website templates" for their creative agenies to follow to make development easier for Accenture and cheaper for our client. This, of course, limits our designers creativity. Accenture definitely lacks digital capabilities.

Call me crazy, but if I wanted a beautiful website that worked well, Accenture would be the last place I called. And 32m is shocking.

Wow! Great article. I have so many thoughts...

First of all, this whole scenario is very common unfortunately. Companies pay big bucks for a web redesign, but cheap out on paying developers to make the design real. When you cheap out on the code and don’t force dev and design to collaborate, this is what you get. This is the worst case scenario for anyone that works with waterfall methodology with a big client.

Also, I would argue shame on Accenture for not embracing templates. Every digital designer worth their salt understands the value of consistency and using templates to display similar content. People who say this hinders creativity... be more creative. Changing something to a wacky font on a random page is not creative enough. Creating meaningful content to put into the template is where you should focus your efforts. Creatives that complain about templates are weak sauce.

I don’t think the lawsuit has merit with the claim that responsive needs a tablet view unfortunately. Yeah, they should have made a tablet view but you don’t need it for responsive. Should’ve specified that in the contract though!

The lesson in this: pay for good developers! Or be prepared to waste more money on cheap ones.

Won’t change much in the short term, other than a bit of a reputation hit. And they’ll buy in better capabilities as quickly as possible. Alas - the consultancies still cometh.

"Despite having missed the deadline by five months, with no completed elements and weighed down by buggy code, Accenture told Hertz it would cost an additional $10m – on top of the $32m it had already been paid – to finish the project"

It’s extortion basically. But a common Industry practice when the SOW is not detailed enough. Change request from Hell!

Imagine paying thirty million + for a website. Whoever approved that should be fired.

Shouldn’t someone on the client side be fired? How can this go on for this long without some client figurehead being like WTF!?!

Considering moving to a HCOL area to be closer to the office and more networking opportunities and things to do in the city. Remote work is getting to me. Do most places in Canada not consider internship/coop experience as actual experience? I earned 15 months of my CPA practical experience that way (4 coop terms) so I am confused why some companies do not consider it.

Hey CDs, do you find it stressful to have creative teams that just don’t bring it. I have a couple that consistently table interesting and well crafted ideas and a couple that don’t and I feel I need to take up the slack. Management don’t want to let them go because of the current tightening of the labor market. I feel like these teams have me over a barrel and there’s very little I can do about it.

Small agency owner 🙋🏻‍♂️ I’ve wracked my brain and have 3 biz model options, none great:

Billable hrs: Generally accepted. We all know the downsides.

Pay4performance: Big upside potential, tons of risks.

Project pricing: Cloak for billable hours. You have to estimate project cost with something.

Who’s thought of a better approach??? Genuinely curious if there is one.
