How do you use sick days for vacation? Do you just not show up to work without telling your boss or tell your boss on the day you call it sick that you aren't feeling well?

What makes you think you can just not show up without telling anyone?

like

Tell your boss you are going on vacation and charge sick time instead

@EY 1: We can all just not show up and not tell anyone. It’s called being an adult. With that said, plenty of adults make stupid decisions all the time. Those adults don’t hold down jobs for very long.

like

@EY3, I can’t imagine ever just not showing up to work and not telling anyone, even as an experienced SM. If I am out sick or on vacation, my team knows about it.

OP, if you are home sick, charge your time to the illness charge code. If you are on vacation, charge your time to the vacation charge code. If you are taking a personal day, charge your time to the personal day charge code.

EY 4 - Another addition to the list of things you thought you wouldn't have to tell someone.

I work on one of the chiller engagements imaginable and I wouldn’t dream of just not showing up without telling anyone. We don’t have sick days (just 25 PTO days total) so I don’t have to worry about that distinction however.

like

Can’t you just put it on Jabber/Skype?

@EY 4: I am the same way in that I could never simply not show up and fail to inform my team. I think you might have missed the second half of my post which refers to adults that make stupid decisions (like not showing up and not telling anyone) and lose their jobs as a result.

EY4, yeah, I missed the intent of the second part of your comment. Read too quickly! :)

About to go on a flight tomorrow but our toddler has a slight runny/congested nose and some sneezing. Hoping it passes but how do I get in touch with American Airlines to potentially change my flight in the case that he is actually sick? Flight is tomorrow but current ETA for a call back is Weds. They should be able to issue credits or change the flight days after we no-show?

Also I’m guessing the airline will not allow us to get on the plane given these symptoms even if he wears a mask?

I've realized recently I don't feel "psychologically safe" at work. It's a term I coined up. I don't feel safe opening up, feeling like anything I say can and will be used against me, and that no one on my team truly has my back. Little things have made me feel this way, wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar? Is it all in my head and if so how do I deal with it?
