You should go home, 104 fever is not something to take lightly.. and if they’re not being flexible you should consider leaving. I had a 3 month old when I was in a big 4 firm and when I asked for flexibility so I can see my baby during busy season, the best I got was to leave at 10 pm and then login from home. I ended up leaving after the busy season, and I’m glad I did. Family is more important than work because they can replace any one of us at any time but you’re family can’t replace you!

Hello partners it’s not your 1980s public accounting anymore. It’s a buyers market. You need us and we can all get jobs tomorrow!!!!

like

I can’t believe this is happening to you ! Please think of your baby first ! 104 fever CANNOT be neglected. At the end of the day, once you finish the job, it will just be another job that getting done, people will move on. but your baby health is something permanent please please don’t let those toxic people affect your life !!! Send love to you and your baby !!! Hope your baby will get well soon

OP, my heart breaks for you. I would walk directly to a partner and explain what you were told. While busy season is important, nothing is ever more important than your baby... ever.

like

Completely agree. And if they don’t also agree than this is inappropriate and take clear action to address it, that’s your signal to start looking for another job.

like

I am so sorry OP and wow you work with some horrible people. You don’t deserve this. Switch team or get another job. Hope your baby gets better soon.

like

Ha didn’t want to suggest this but yeah, that would be next in my consideration. Working with unkind people is awful especially when I KNOW there are teams that wouldn’t do that.

like

Whoever you are working for just cares about themselves and does not care about your baby. A good partner will cut you some slack and let you work from home on days like this. I ‘ve worked for good and bad partners. Find someone else to work for in public. There is plenty of opportunity out there. Live life with no regrets.

like

What do you mean by “doesn’t consider it important”? Meaning you can’t take time to be with your sick child? What level are you?

like

This is not ok. No one should be crying at their desk. That is atrocious.

like

thanks much for being considerate. I'm overloaded with work due to other seniors being sick/running full capacity. my little one is down with a 104 fever and I'm just crying at my desk while working. haven't slept last night.

Also check with you Leave of Absence team regarding FMLA - you have federal protection with this.

That’s definitely not ok of them and I’d be talking to someone about it. Last year my 1 year old got the flu the week of filing then gave it to me so I was out that entire last week and my team was great about picking up what I wasn’t able to. No one wants their kid to be sick and it’s completely out of your control but something they have to let you deal with.

like

I am so sorry to hear that but I know some teams like that. If your baby is so sick, I would email to your manager in the morning and say unfortunately my baby is sick so I have to take Care Day, I will login as soon as I can and turn off email, focus on your child. Another option and I don’t want you to lie but it looks like you don’t have much choice: say that you got sick from the baby and have to take sick day and will try to work from home as much as you can. Then try to switch the group you are working in, not all teams like that. Believe me take care of your baby is most important, you will always find another job. I had to quit when my first baby was 6 months old and I was on a work visa, never regretted it.

Sista please understand, nothing comes before family and health. You gotta do what you have to do, to keep it at the top of your priority list. Simple.

I have a little one at home and I would talk to my coach/pml about this. This is completely not acceptable. And you are burning candle on both ends, not quite sustainable. I would tell my partner/coach my situation and offer solutions like hey I could work x amount of time but baby is down I need to be off during this hours. I hope you understand. If they give you any bs, it’s a really crappy management team.

like

No way. Which group ? This is outrageous.

A parent of one of my students told admin she thinks it's irresponsible that I won't be grading over Christmas break. I let the students know to get any work they need graded in before the break and I'll get it to it during our workdays in January. Apparently that's not fast enough for her 🙄. Is it wrong that I'm sort of pissed off by this? Should I say something?

For those who already have a baby - I (36f) just had a baby 6 weeks ago, and my wife (33F) is now back at work (WFH) and I’m still on leave. Since I have the baby all day and get up with her all night, my wife basically “takes over” baby duty when she stops working. The problem is that within an HOUR she has lost all patience with the baby. She gets frustrated so quickly if the baby is crying and will say things like “I’m just going to let her cry since nothing im doing helps” (cont)
