I had a final round interview with an MBB and it was pretty clear the experience gap was an issue. The interviewers were kind of taken back as to how I even got there in the first place tbh, and it did not go well. I just got really lucky with the application and breezed through the first round, but after that I had nothing to answer for to the work they actually do other than general consultant stuff that everyone does.
Basically anything strategy related. Maybe if you have been part of a pursuit team where you recommended ERP’s to a client and analyzed their business needs it would be relevant, but none of the implementation aspects would strongly translate to their work. Not to say it is not possible, but you would have to really sell your strengths. And if you do, you still need to nail the two case interviews which can be tough depending on how your interviewer is. I personally was very weak in my case interview, but hoping to maybe get the same luck in a few months when they said I should apply again.

WD FINS to FAANG is more realistic and ironically most strategy consultants are trying to get into FAANG as the next step.
I would probably try moving to strategy within Deloitte and then trying for MBB if you still like it. I’ve done some strategy work in between projects and I personally did not like it. Strategy is a different beast.
A lot more PowerPoint and modeling and quicker turnaround. Workday is usually a bit longer timelines, so the shorter strategy projects can be a bit overwhelming at first. I just found it to be a bunch of b.s slides and it doesn’t feel like you leave with anything tangible. Just a bunch of recommendation and nice slides that back up whatever it is you are recommending

Have you tried talking to your leadership at D about moving to strategy?
No but I have some contacts within Monitor whom may want to staff me on a project soon. I guess that would be a starting point
Agree with the above - your best bet will be moving to strat within D and then going for MBB. It’ll be very difficult to go Workday->MBB without previous strategy experience or going for a T7 MBA.
I have worked at Deloitte and they make transferring pretty difficult.
I’ve done it at Accenture, from my experience your best bet will be to move to Deloitte HCM consulting (or Accenture T&O in my case) that way your still sitting in the same overall group. Do some org design and hr strat projects and then network your way over to a pure strategy project when you roll off. Shouldn’t be that difficult since you’re already in The same group and have relevant skill set.
