We used to have weeks where there was really nothing to do and that would allow the ‘burn out’ to reverse. Now I’m nearly 30 and looking at the lives of others ahead of me, they look just as miserable as me. I formerly worked in audit so do I see this as a sign that I should try to leverage that experience and get out before it’s too late or do I dig my heels in and try to maintain a better balance and maybe get to partner one day? The life interests me but it’s hard to have any hope it’ll get better especially considering tax law changes in the horizon and awful staffing issues. Any advice?
Facts
I just heard something…oh wait…it’s industry calling my name
Couldn’t agree more, every day I try to find reasons to convince myself as to why this is normal and that it’s “just another rough day”. It’s gotten to the point where it’s causing me hate tax entirely which is why leaving for industry for more compliance doesn’t excite me either. You’re not the only one
I honestly don’t know. I never intended to stay this long and have always said that if I find something I like elsewhere, I’ll make the jump. However, I’m very picky and, while I might be recruited for tax, I want to be involved in the front office/revenue generating side of any business as well.
IDK man but you are far from alone. I know that nearly every M1 in our group feels the same. Definitely been feeling like I do is work so I can afford food/place to sleep and then sleep and go right back to it. A good number of our group is on antidepressants too and I think it’s mainly situational.
Makes sense. I was the opposite… average or below average staff/senior and good manager lol
Same same.
