Anyone make a move to MBB LS arm?
Bain & Company What is the likelihood of making SAC in September 2022 if I join as an AC on April 18th at Bain & Company? I am a senior consultant at EY with 3.5 years of experience in Data Analytics. Or is March 2023 more realistic? They told me 6 months for promotion but it seems like the two promotion cycles with my different start dates give me 4 or 9 months of experience, nothing in between. I’ll be joining in the private equity group which will be new for me.

good entries are vc developmental programs focused on students (contrary, rough draft, pear vc). Additionally firms like sequoia and bain capital have scout programs
Thanks so much I will look into those! What exactly is a scout program vs. a traditional internship?
Connections, networking, previous experience at private/business banks, etc.
Lots of networking, bachelor degrees from the most prestigious schools (think HYP and Stanford), experience at startups either as a founder or early employee (e.g. first PM of the company). Some consulting/banking exp helps but doesn’t compensate for lack of the above. And you have to do all these things while in your early-mid 20s.
Unfortunately the competition is so fierce that the best funds look for all this bling and have to prioritize who they assess for a role.
B&C 1, so I assume a B.B.A. from CU Boulder is basically a deal breaker? I have an emphasis in entrepreneurship and our program is one of the best in the country but the school itself obviously isn’t.
IMO not a dealbreaker if you jump head-on into entrepreneurship and work at startups, ideally in the Bay Area. Look for PM or Ops roles (BizOps, Prod ops, Sales Ops) as an entry point. Basically show that you love and thrive in that environment, that you hustle, and network as much as possible. I think this will give you a shot at a decently good VC, but not necessarily a16z. After a couple years as associate, you may move to more prestigious vcs.
An alternative is to try to spend 1-2 years in big tech before jumping into a startup as a plan B
This helps, thank you! 🙏
