How does maternity leave work for NEPs? I know they aren’t “employees” so it seems like they don’t have the same protection for leave but it’s still unclear how it all works.

Equity partner here. I was offered the same leave as any other employee (and took it all).

Location and firm policies vary, you’ll have to ask what your firm’s specific policies are.

All I’ve been told is that partners don’t technically get leave so it’s up to them to decide how much time to take off. So I’m trying to figure out whether we’re on par with the market (Texas office for international big law firm) or if there are other firms that handle this differently (and which firms those are).

It depends on the firm, of course. But my experience: our maternity leave policy covers only “employees,” but I took and was permitted the same leave when I was a young partner.

Second kid? I’m turning 35 next month.. 7th year associate, just quit biglaw couple months ago for a small firm (they are pretty busy but def more humane). Very hesitant about having a second child but worry that I will miss my chance. My husband is saying if I don’t do it soon, he doesn’t want a second child (he’s approaching 40). I feel a lot of pressure - I don’t know about my future with this firm or what I even want to do (never wanted to be a partner but I do like deal work)...

Here is the TLDR LEK doesn’t suck post.

IMHO, our stint in consulting’s purpose is to develop a corporate strategy skillset. Doing CDDs is one of if not the best way to get a ton of reps and variety in our 18 - 24 month tenure.

With options among MBB, T2 incl S&, EYP, and general Big 4 / ACN MC:

- Take MBB (can ask for CDD, overall better comp package)
- Reject B4 MC (won’t get it here)
- T2 (pick other T2s if you want way more strategy projects that aren’t CDD / growth strategy)

My group has been using form 8453 for years to document e-file authorization from clients. We have recently started investigating form 8879 as an alternative since we don’t need to attach to xml when efiling. Can’t seem to find a reason why we would not be able to take this approach but want to make sure I’m not missing anything. Anyone been using 8879s for this purpose and any reasons why we would not be able to do so?

Final straw was her throwing a glass of water in my face when fighting. She keeps begging me to come home and says she’ll change. Hard not to go back. Never thought I’d be 32, heartbroken, and on sisters spare room.
