i quit my old job (industrial designer) to become a trainer. plan was to learn to be a trainer at eqx for a year then go back to design but i love it so much i’ve been doing it for 5 years now
i got certified through nesta doing self study. initially i wanted to do it on the side but i invested further to become a good trainer. got lucky getting hired by them as a brand new trainer. not to toot my own horn but was hired for my personality and ability to talk to people. it was also a plus that i’ve been a working professional who can relate to prospects
NASM and make sure you read up on Sales. I did it for years but left bc of the hours - 6am to Noon then 5p-9p (plus would teach classes in addition to one on ones)
NASM is what I’m looking into atm. Sounds brutal, was this your main job at the time?
Do you want to work for a gym or do freelance PT? In the country I’m at (UK), you don’t need any certificate to call yourself a PT. If you’re doing anything sport-specific, it might be useful to get one of the certificates from the major organisations.
I did some part-time PT/nutrition coaching during my PhD (graduated now and just started working). Competed in powerlifting at national level so got the GBPF/IPF related certificates/training courses.
Thanks A1, this is very helpful!
