SALT is the worst... I’m in FS but I don’t know how there are humans who exist and enjoy doing state & local taxes 🤢 We are forced to do some SALT kind of returns along with the Federal and everyone hates it

Ask? You must be a senior if you are permanently in a group right?

I do fed tax compliance, and I feel bad for salt. We always seem to be accepting rotators. Just ask.

Currently, thinking about focusing in SALT (State income tax area). What are some exit opportunities you've seen people in this area leave for? Just curious.

There are plenty of salt opportunities in industry, both on the compliance and planning/controversy side

I recently started (5/mo ago) at a new agency and everything is a 180 from my last role and I’m honestly getting discouraged. Everything from pitching style and media approach to the types of clients (I was told in the interview process I was going to be working with some clients but that has totally shifted) and I feel like my experience and expertise is both not valued and ideas shot-down at every turn. How can I turn this experience around?

How much discomfort/inconvenience am I supposed to endure for work travel?
I’m being asked to travel from CA to NY for a trade show. Flight options are either overnight or amount to 18+ hours of travel. Plus, I’m a bigger guy and sitting in an airline seat for 6 hours is miserable. I was hired without any pre-defined travel expectations/requirements.

As someone with a background in the military, is it worth it to try to go back to the government as a tax analyst or senior tax analyst for the Dept of the Treasury? I'm wondering if I'll have an edge in getting hired as I've been at the GS-13 level before I left the military and I'm hoping I can use that time in service to add to a pension time requirement in the government.

I’m a new senior associate and I don’t have all the answers. Hell I’m still learning…but I figured if I can lower associates 20 questions to 2 questions to the partner then that’s a win, right?

I am a 3rd year senior associate in alternative investment tax and up for manager promotion this year. I really dislike the long hours of this job and seeking to make a move. Although I’m not sure i necessarily want to stay in tax. I have a young toddler at home and want to find a job i like, makes decent money, and has decent hours so i can spend more time with family.

Has anyone been in a similar position and made a move? Can you please share your experience? Thanks!
