How does short term disability work? I'm trying to find a document that explains how much time is offered as paid leave through STD for maternity vs. bonding with newborn etc.

Typically you have to use 5 sick days as a waiting period before STD starts. Once the STD kicks in, you typically get 6-8 weeks (depending on vaginal or c-section delivery) paid through the insurance program. Then any paid parental leave from your employer kicks in after that. Talk to your HR or Benefits person who should be able to help.

Each company has different policies in my experience. My current company requires STD be taken prior to using maternity leave. There should be a document within your company’s internal webpage that breaks it down

You mean short term disability after you give birth? It’s 4-6 weeks, 4 for vaginal birth, 6 for c-section.

There you go- diff firm by firm and/or state by state. Not THAT diff though..

Each company is different. I would ask your HR.

Secondly , I think he just doesn’t split the household work equally . It’s like taking care of a baby . I have had multiple conversations with him about this he does some work

My husband and I are going to start trying soon and are trying to get on the same page regarding childcare. I suggested daycare but my husband says he absolutely doesn’t want a “stranger” watching our child. Instead, he wants our moms to watch our child. My mom doesn’t have the best health and can’t really be relied on so that leaves his mom. I’ve said for years that I don’t want our moms to be our childcare. Is there a way to compromise here? Any idea that’s not a parent = stranger to him 😩

I don’t know how to approach work during this time. I think I can get by, but I’m definitely not 100%. Should I talk to my boss about it? My team is close-knit and comfortable around each other, but I don’t know if it’s “appropriate.” What would you do?

Moms, did having daycare at your gym help you to go more often? Did the environment help?

Hubby thinks that we can workout at home (peloton, weight bench, online classes, jogging stroller) or in our community gym & pool. But I'm excited to join a local sports club with lots of amenities (classes, squash, tennis, swim) and 2.5 hrs daycare / day.
I'm remote so getting out of the house occasionally would be nice, plus give baby some exposure. Baby will start full time 9-4 daycare soon though.

Just a thought to discuss.
