How does sick pay work in the U.K.? Will I still get paid if I have the flu and take some days off?

For context I have the flu currently (not Covid) and yesterday I worked even though I was very ill, I was scared I will lose out on pay if I took a day off sick. A colleague said I should have taken the day off sick so wondering if I will get my full salary

like

Yes you’ll get paid. Maybe read your contract?

Maybe just read the law.

Can't imagine any country in Europe not paying for sick leaves.

Any mck fish- what is the sick leave policy for mck? Unclear in offer letter. I know that we have short term disability leave for >5 days of being sick, but what is it if I am sick for a couple days (fever etc)

Anything past 3/5 days in a row means you need a doctors letter (although in practice, nobody really cares/asks).

Sick pay is a legal right for a full time employee

Legally you can take up to 7 days off such without a doctors note

Does McK require a note after 5 working days or 5 calendar days? 7 days in the UK include the weekend and bank holidays.

You will get paid but your pay can be reduced to a statutory sick pay minimum which is peanuts. Check your contract for more info on what kind of sick pay your employer provides.

Usually you get sick pay at your full salary for odd bouts of sick leave. So if it's 2-3 days here and then another few days there you'll be ok. However, if your off sick frequently your manager may speak to you to understand what's going on (wrong approach imo) and after a certain number of days the firm will put you on Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) for any future sick days. However, if you fall long term ill then you or the firm might have some sort of group income protection in place which will pay some % of your salary for a predetermined period. OP sounds like you're not sick often, so please don't be afraid to take the time off you need to recover. You won't be impacted financially unless it's very frequent.

I am looking to create a side huddle that could grow into a part-time gig in 5 years earning 60k where. I am not a licensed medical professional but I know the healthcare ecosystem, motives, thinking, and challenges that exist. I’m wondering how to parlay this knowledge into a side gig.
