How does someone transition from low-end ID (MVAs, slip & falls) to L&E without the experience? Anyone do this successfully?

Upswell yourself first and focus on total exposure - due to the grind em up nature of my first law firm, within a year I was solo-dolo handling high 6 and low 7 figure exposure cases. None of the of people interviewing believed me until I had to “show receipts”

What is dolo

I recently transitioned from professional malpractice to L&E after years of trying. Does the firm you’re at now have L&E work? Be vocal abt wanting that experience. Otherwise, you can make contacts with other L&E attnys by joining that section of your local bar. It’s tough though!

like

That’s ok. That’s just one route. Definitely check out your local bar and join that section.

Move to a small general practice firm where you can take on a general litigation case mix with some L&E and leverage leverage leverage

The l&e bowl has this question and answers all over.

But I kept hacking away. Sold my experience from ID and showed interest in law school.

Keep trying took me a few years. Rooting for you.

I’ve been extremely busy. Because of this, I have less patience for the constant follow up required for me to get things out the door (I’m talking about weeks of unanswered e-mails and phone calls). I have been finding it difficult to raise the issue because everyone seems appreciative and many partners (including the ones who are causing the unnecessary stress) go out of their way to tell me what a fantastic job I’m doing. Any suggestions as to how to raise this without jeopardizing my status?

Writing sample question. I drafted a really complex dispositive motion that was granted. It was obviously revised by the partners on the case but can I still use it as a sample?

Obviously I would redact or change client/identifying information. It was publicly filed and is available on the public docket. I am not one of the attorneys of record.

Curious what people have done in the past. I'm interested in lateral positions so can't exactly ask the partners I work with.

Recommendation for those who haven’t heard of this:

If you use Google Chrome, I highly recommend you download the ProKeys extension and implement it into your billing practices. You can create “snippets” (abbreviations) for template billing entries and auto-populate the full text just by typing in the snippet and hitting a hot key. The extension functions anywhere in your web browser (but you can disable it on certain sites if necessary.)

Check it out! Let me know if you have questions.
