How does the referral system work at McKinsey? Do you need to know a senior employee to get one? Or can Business Analysts at the firm give referrals as well? 

I’m thinking of going back to the gov at my old agency and have a final round scheduled this week. I left because there were a lack of opportunities and growth where I was and the new position would be in a different division where everyone I know who works there loves their job. Pay would likely include a descent (15%) raise since we’re on a pay band system, but I’m worried I’m taking a step backward going from a SC up for M to a cog in a office. Curious if anyone’s ever thought of going back.

I have an offer for McKinsey EM - currently at T2 - when I gave notice my firm offered instant Director (I was 1 yr away). They are pushing hard and basically badmouthing McK scandals etc, raising integration risks with existing McK consultants - will be seen as outsider etc. any thoughts? There is a risk but in my view worst case I’m there for 2yrs then can decide next step with a great brand on CV. Comp isn’t that important to me ultimately we will all do well in the long run.
