One client vs several

You get to do a lot of more granular audits about very specific processes, projects, or applications if you’re in internal audit. External auditors are only going to do the big engagements that are required by regulators (eg, SOX).

like

Ahh yes you are probably right. Well then I change my reply to: no idea other than only having one client and you don’t feel like an outsider.

External IA - learn what you need to know to do the procedures at a high level, assess and get out Internal IA - learn the entire process, focus on requirements, assess performance at a more specific level, determine changes needed, write report with issues and then move over to next audit, but monitor remediation of issues in each audit

helpful

In one, the client hates you. In the other, your coworkers hate you

funny

Industry IA can be much more specialized and repetitive. One-off and more complex projects go to external IA.

Depends entirely on what one wants out of their job. Predictability and consistency are awesome job characteristics for many...

Feeling pretty down and stuck in Audit, after several months of searching My market has fewer job ads and I've been unsuccessful in interviews during the late stages (companies have said I fit the job role/culture but went with someone who had more industry experiences). I don't believe I'm too picky, but I'm starting to feel I should get industry experience in a smaller company then reapply to other companies. Has anyone been in this situation? Care to share some insight/advice?

Was about to accept an offer with a smaller brand strategy firm and got a push to interview with Deloitte for a partnerships lead position that really matches my profile…but love the culture of the smaller firm. Go for big brand name and bigger check, or growth and connection at smaller firm with exciting work?? Obviously just in first round with Deloitte—but 25yrs old, so trying my best to think ahead and make smart moves!

Applied to Google for a couple of roles and got a call from a recruiter for a strategy role. Thought this was odd since strategy isn't exactly what I wrote my resume for. Already offered at Amazon for a deep learning role with 25% more pay (i.e., Google Strategy would pay less). In general, what's the smart play here? Can I continue to focus on technical work and pivot to strategy later when I want to? I feel like I can work to ensure my tech skills are top tier, and when needed, do...

Unpopular opinion for an SM: I enjoy the strategic, problem solving (whatever that may be: decks, implementation, etc) & team building parts of consulting but I absolutely hate the meetings & client-facing side. I just want to be the SME fixing stuff and don't want to deal with anything else.
