Accenture throws em onto a different track, lower sales targets, higher chargeability targets, and things like speaking/going to conferences
I've also seen people relax at the M/SM level as well
That parallel tracks ends where the MD path starts, equivalent to our L4 MDs. There is much less pressure to sell, and the numbers can be hit by supporting MD sales efforts and selling extensions.
The total comp is lower than L4s, but more is tied to base salary.
It is more than a "super SM", they are expected to be very deep in a specialty. Many of our Data Scientist PhDs follow this track for example.
Deloitte has a Specialist track. They focus on delivery.
As D1 said, we have a Specialist track that starts at the Manager-equivalent level. They focus more on specific areas of expertise and have different types of metrics based on their strengths. There’s no standard time at level / “up or out” on that track
Expert Career Track is meant for folks who want to develop deep subject matter expertise and remain client facing without account ownership accountability (although everyone is responsible for client outcomes and relationships). ECTers are not subject to up or out, so progression can be slower. They are also subject to utilization targets, which generalists don’t have. At a given level, comp is roughly the same. ECTers have a clear (though maybe slower) path to Partner, but historically have not been able to reach MD, except by exception. That seems to be shifting.
Possible I’m wrong, but was almost certain that base and bonus structure for a given level eg PL2 are exactly the same. You may spend longer at each level though.
We have multiple Talent models at D that offer flexibility - Aside from Traditional Core Consulting track, we have Specialist, Project Delivery (PDM) and USDC-US Delivery Center. (Traditional pays the highest on average)
PwC has basically nothing. Sell your rear end off, hit your targets or leave. We've lost a lot of really outstanding specialists because they weren't interested in sales and BD and the firm had no other path for them.
