I have a dear friend who was recent laid off from a tech company. I’m currently in my first in-house counsel position and was able to secure the job off of cold applying and don’t really have much advice to give. I really want to help support. I know about goinhouse.com and I know people say recruiters (I never found them helpful so wondering how). How did you find your gig? Sites? Been laid off and how to bounce back? Thanks!

This doesn’t seem like something that would be a good idea
Do it. Easily weed yourself out so the truthful ones have a better shot.
I’m honestly shocked this is even being asked lol why not go big, tell them you were POTUS
Although POTUS is not a bad idea at all. Steyer and Buttigieg both dropped out in the last two days, you could totally go from Associate to POTUS! Sounds like a great plan OP 👍
Try working for your achievements
Background checks
EY3, that’s incorrect. To mitigate risk, all they disclose are your dates and position(s). If they wanted to, they could say you were fired for taking a dump on a partner’s desk, the issue with that is they better damn sure have supporting evidence because otherwise you could hire an attorney and sue for some defamation cause of action.
Try it and let us know how it works for you 😂
First and formost is integrity. Nothing good can come from lies in the long run and its a slippery slope. Just say your up.for promotion to senior associate.
Exactly! It would be better to simply be honest about being an associate. From there, OP can say he/she was the “acting senior” on an engagement, etc., to upsell himself. But straight-up lying about the job title? Not a wise move, and can very easily be fact-checked.
Like PwC1 said, plus assuming that you're interviewing for a position in accounting, they're probably familiar with the typical promotion years in B4 so they'd figure it out
It’s just funny someone is honestly asking if it’s ok to lie lol
My girlfriend got away with this. She left EY as a 3rd year staff and wrote senior. Got a job in industry as a manager. She is doing great.
Yes but you could also get caught. Your girlfriend was just lucky. Someone I know got fired for lying about GPA on a resume. They were a couple years in as a senior and GPA doesn’t even matter lol.
You can lie and not get caught, but at least in my area (major city with lots of job openings) if you get caught your reputation will be shot because tax community here is pretty tight-knit. I wouldn’t risk it but that’s just me. It has nothing to do with working hard for a title and everything with my professional reputation and personal brand.
Everyone here will hate because they worked hard for their titles and it annoys them you can just lie and get away with it. But you totally can lol
Most of the people interviewing you will come from PA and will tell if you’re BSing from the jump.
OP - Here’s how it works:
Companies/firms ARE allowed to lie in their job descriptions.
Politicians/Presidents ARE allowed to lie about their resumes.
We are NOT allowed to lie on our resumes.
Hard to believe you’d get away with it. In my market, someone in the accounting department is going to know someone you know and do some informal reference checking. It’s going to come out there.
Short sighted and risky move, you will actually be a senior soon anyway if you can’t get those opportunities without the senior title
Grounds for termination if discovered. Not to mention your own integrity.
Just FYI, if you get the job and then someone from your new place of work finds out from your old place of work that you lied on a resume it’s a fireable offense. Then the next time you get a job, you basically have to say “I got let go/fired from my last job” otherwise you’re screwing yourself because they could find out too. Don’t know if that possible outcome makes the risk worth it, maybe just try to talk yourself up in an honest manner. Title isn’t everything and employers know that.
How would they find out if I was experienced associate or senior associate? Do managers lie about being senior managers?
They call PwC to confirm your former employment and position as listed on your resume.
Everyone is so upset about this LOL. Honestly if you feel like your experience is that of a senior and you’ve been on engagements where you had senior duties then I don’t see anything wrong - just make sure you know what’s expected of you.
At the end of the day it’s just a title - don’t trip. My only worry would be your background check. If that’s the case just say you’re in the process of being promoted (which I’m assuming most year2 associates are in track to being promoted anyways)
😂 oh man #DontTrip
