I am dealing 🙂 Thought it was fair to get some general opinions here.

In this era, working remote is the norm for now, so it shouldn’t be a big deal to ask to work remotely from here. A colleague here in Chicago accepted an offer at another company in NY. With everything going on, he stayed in Chicago and is working virtually from here. Eventually, he can reevaluate if things improve and he can move to NY.

It depends on demand in your region and LoS. In early 2019 I requested a Summer 2019 transfer to another state (and a different category of tax LoS). The new tax group has crazy demand, so my request was approved in less than a week. I also had good ratings and my team was supportive, so I’m sure that helped. My younger brother has gotten a FT offer from PwC too and wanted to push back his start date due to personal stuff and school. He asked and they agreed without any problems. Remember that they want to retain you. You’re not being “difficult” by asking. They understand that people have personal reasons. You won’t be blacklisted for asking.

I vibe well with my manager and have proven to him that I’m not moving my cursor every five min when I’m WFH. I let him know 8 months prior that I would be moving to another city for a year. He was fine with it.

Depends on the firm, but plenty of firms don't care what office you're physically in. Definitely just ask.

My principal approached me in the car pick up line on Friday to inform me that I’ve taken to many days off & school has just started. I took 1day off when my daughter tested positive for Covid, I had an doctor’s appt that had been scheduled 6 months ago to see the hematologist. Being that I’m anemic, current labs showed I need to have 2 iron infusions. I put in for 2 more days off to have that done. He told me in the future to wait until a work day! We done have any until December!!
