How far along will you announce or notify the office that you are pregnant? I’m getting several different responses, with pretty good reasons. Does it matter if you are staff or managers or above?

If it's your first pregnancy, you had no trouble getting pregnant, and you have never had a miscarriage before, wait until at least 12 weeks. If you've had previous issues, I'd wait as long as you can based on your rank and when you start showing.

Also consider business needs. For example, if they're staffing for busy season and your due date is before then, you should speak up.

like

So my due date is in mid Feb, right before the busy season starts. I know that they usually start discussing staffing around Jan. It seems late if I tell them then. Maybe starting showing would be a good time

I was a first time mom and told at 12 weeks. I was constantly exhausted and wasn’t feeling like I was pulling my weight. At the time utilization of my staff class was being monitored by the day/week so I thought my partners would notice and wanted to be up front. (For that reason as well, its nearly impossible to fire a pregnant lady so I felt better about making time for my health). It was also the week before promo day and as someone who usually has a good time at those events would have had to lie a lot about why I wasn’t drinking.

Most people wait until they start showing in my experience

With my first I was due end of April so I told them after my first trimester. With my second I was due mid January so I told the partners on my teams earlier from a planning perspective. You can’t formally initiate the leave request with the NLC in workday until like 60 ish days before your due date so any time before that is just to let your teams know to plan

I’d wait until 4 months.

I prefer to wait as long as I can, so usually between16-20 weeks. That is still plenty of notice. I wouldn’t wait until it’s like super obvious though and everyone is like duh you are pregnant. Like someone else mentioned if you aren’t feeling well then speak up sooner so they know why your performance might be a little off.

I’ve been asked to weigh in on how to improve my firms parental leave policy. It’s currently 8 weeks paid for birth parent with an extra week for each year at the firm (up to 12 weeks total) and 2 weeks paid for non-birth parent. I’m in a major city, firm is a boutique that has been around a very long time. What would you suggest? Any studies or research you’ve seen recently on trends in parental leave policies also helpful. I’d like to have some sort of data to back up what I recommend. TIA!

Do any other firms have a policy that requires you to return to work for a certain period after paid parental leave, and if you choose to leave you are required to pay it back? If so, is there anyone who decided to leave before the end of that period? What happens if you can’t afford to pay it back?

Like the gym / classes, but the time saving aspect of at home workouts is great and better for us right now with baby. Might get this as gift for hubby.

I think I am in an emotionally abusive relationship. I am married with a small child. I have been walking on eggshells for years, afraid of triggering my husband and his rage. He is constantly screaming at me or giving me the silent treatment for no reason at all. Interestingly enough, he’s a good father and my child adores him. I don’t know what to do, and I’m terrified of losing time with my child and the impact on my child longer term if I leave him. He won’t go to counseling. Advice?

I do not want to lose my skill set, been in consulting for 12 yrs. And at the same time love the time that I spend with my baby. What is the right thing to do? I really need to get a fresh perspective and some inspiration.
