How formal does everyone keep internal emails? I would like to drop all of the formalities (similar to what you see in quick messaging systems like Slack or Skype). There is a general sense of formality in most of the emails exchanged, but I'm fine with trying to break this trend if everyone else is doing it.

I'm incredibly informal with my team. But the construction law practice is like that.

Depends on the partners preference tbh. Some partners use email like Skype while others prefer to write internal emails like a formal letter. You do you but I try to steer my style towards who I am emailing.

I’m usually quite careful with internal emails because there is always the possibility they get forwarded to others not familiar with the issue. But I’m also a junior.

I said “yep” to another associate today, so I’d say I’m preeeeetty adventurous.

If you are junior, err on the side of formality. If you are senior, say whatever you want. I get “thx” or “yep” or “k” from partners all the time

This never gets old.

Adapt to the style of whoever you are emailing or one small level more formal.

The short: Would anyone be up for starting regular virtual co-working sessions? I’m thinking 2-3 rounds of [5 mins to set intentions : 45 mins of work : 10 min break]. The long: One technique I’ve found to stay focused is “body doubling,” i.e., having another person present while you’re working. I’ve had some success replicating this over Zoom/Google Meet. Everyone works on their own thing and stays muted during work blocks, but videos stay on. It reminds me of studying in the library vs at home

I am a mid level and have received an offer from a regional big law firm in a non-market paying location. I believe the firm would be a great fit and the location is where I want to be.
