How formal does everyone keep internal emails? I would like to drop all of the formalities (similar to what you see in quick messaging systems like Slack or Skype). There is a general sense of formality in most of the emails exchanged, but I'm fine with trying to break this trend if everyone else is doing it.

Generally curious how many companies offer phone reimbursement? My last gig did not but the current one does. Legally it seems, all employers are required to do so if we use our phone in literally any capacity (video call, slack, teams, emails etc). How prevalent is the issue of not reimbursing phone dues?

I love teaching art but am having to teach remotely to 1150 kids, k - 5. Have about 54 amazing elementary art teachers in my district that share SO much! I could retire (34 yrs), but just don’t want to because I love what I do! Why can't a placement agent combine or integrate the offering of interests in the sponsor's fund with the contemporaneous offering of interests in another fund? I am a mid level and have received an offer from a regional big law firm in a non-market paying location. I believe the firm would be a great fit and the location is where I want to be. The biggest issue is money. I’d be lateraling from full cravath in a major market and the initial offer I received is a bit off that (read: 50% salary reduction). While the market is cheaper in some respects, housing is not. How far can I expect this firm to go to in terms of compensation? Any negotiation tips?

This job is a lot better if you don't care about the bonus and hours requirement. I can pretty easily bill 1700 hours annually and my firm so far hasn't cared in the slightest. Worrying about hitting 2000 hours for the bonus used stress me out so much, and I just don't think it's worth it. Base salaries are ridiculous and way more than enough to finance my lifestyle.

Did anyone here turn down an in-house role for reasons other than money? I have SEVERE cold feet about succeeding in-house and it being more stressful and “busy” than firm life. Help!
