How hard is it to switch from IT m&a to business m&a (i.e., what financial modeling skills do you need? Is it easy to pick up from YouTube?)

Do you mean the industries IT and business services? Or IT integration vs traditional M&A? Not entirely sure

like

Yeah I meant IT to commercial or even post close integration if the level of modeling needed for commercial is too complex for a mid career change

Totally different skill set. A good starting place is reading through CFA materials and checking out IB analyst modeling courses. Definitely expect it to take a few months to be good at it.

At D we don’t do a lot of CDDs. If you want to do them reach out to your teams. The SM who runs CDDs told me that he would consider SCs with no experience but not Ms. at D it’s easier. At say PwC, the ITDD group is DDV and CDD group is S& so that require you move companies.

Would appreciate if you can connect me with that manager. I'm about to finish up on my M&A project, looking for the next engagement

Age with C1. Totally different skills and customers

Easy at PWC

Hi all, new to fishbowl. I am currently a PTA working in homecare. I am considering changing career paths to non-clinical. Everything I search for available jobs in the pay range that I need seems to come up as sales, (Sr, executive, etc) I have zero sales experience, but could see myself working as a healthcare liason, recruiter, care coordinator, or pharm sales rep. I live in Dayton, OH. I would love some insight or feedback. I also see Gpac recruiting popping up, is this a reputable co? Ty!

Anyone ever leave a job and come back within a few weeks? If so, do you regret it? Were people excited you were back or did you get the cold shoulder? Im in a situation where I was basically sold a lie and now I’m distrustful of the new employer. I was actually happy at my prior job but couldn’t pass up the opportunity. Had I known then what I know now, I would have never accepted. Naturally, I’m regretting my decision and I’m hopeful I could have my old job back. Thoughts? Experiences?

It feels like everyone has gotten so down on advertising. You can still make great work for great brands at great agencies. You can still do things you’re proud of. And fill your portfolios with beautiful things. And have great impact. And collect shiny awards and enjoy great after parties after it. And see your commercials on TV during the Super Bowl. It’s still a great way to make a living if done right. And craft services is still tasty. You just have to make the right career moves.

3 years ago was recruited away from D to a PE portfolio company to run M&A and other strategy work. Things have gone well and company is prepping for exit. I started working as a consultant with EY 8 months ago. Even though I'm content and learning a lot there, I think there are places where I might easily earn more money. I received a job offer last week from Alvarez & Marsal to work as a consultant at the Transaction Advisory Department (financial due diligence team), where I will be paid more fairly (salary & bonus). Should I accept it? Or would leaving EY that early not be wise?

Hi all,

Need some advice on my next career move. I'm 31, have an MBA and am currently a SC in Risk Advisory with no M&A experience. I am good at risk consulting work but don't find it very challenging or interesting. That said, I expect to get promoted to M next year.

Recently, I interviewed with another Big 4 firm for SC in CDD M&A team and have got an offer. I enjoyed doing the CDD case study, and I believe I'd do well in the role.

Does it make sense to start afresh in M&A at this stage?
