How hard it is to pivot from domestic compliance to international tax? Background- I have an opportunity to do foreign tax provision for a MNC but I only have domestic provision experiences… This is a great company but I don’t know if it is worth it to make this transition, especially considering that I have a young kid.

Does it involve a raise or better wlb? I would say go for it if it checks some boxes for you. You can learn on the fly.

There is a raise but not a better wlb :-( there are growth opportunities that the company is bring international work in-house

Regardless, you’ll most likely manage, but depending on what you see on the provision will determine the learning curve. What do you see on the provision?

mainly prepare provision and audit provision from time to time. I enjoy provision and if I stay with the current firm, I will have the opportunity to directly work with the firm’s best provision team. But I’ve only seen foreign provision once because I work in a small office

International tax is definitely very specialized and has gotten very complicated in last 4 years after TCJA and still remains dynamic. But, if you are an experienced manager who understands domestic tax provision well, picking up a few IT items may not be that difficult. But it also varies between MNCs. Some will have complex international group of subsidiaries, FDEs and branches whereas a smaller concentrated group may have one or two. If there is a big pay bump and better wlb like the other person said, go for it. You can always work your way up and hire an IT manager to work with foreign tax stuff.

Will you be the only handling all the foreign entities? This is huge amount of compliance work. It is very likely that you would also review the local tax return for the 800+ entities in different jurisdictions.

It’s usually not a bad idea to branch out and build your skill sets in multiple areas.

Yeah IT is a hot topic in recent years and a good area to learn

&61/904 work might be tough unless The wkps they have in place are great. Tough to learn on the fly.
800+ entities, if already process in place, shouldn’t be that hard to learn, assuming 3/4 of those are basically dormant/DREs and only a few have SubF.

Is it just you on the team on the int’l side? Guessing not with that many entities.

In the restaurant/hospitality space, what should be expected in moving from a single-Market leadership (Regional) role to a Director of Operations role where all Regional leaders are reporting into you?

Capacity and scope will increase from four locations to 20 with an AUV of approx $2.5M, scaling to grow at a pace of 5-7 new locations each year.

Is there a range for all-Brand Director of Operations roles, and/or what should that increase to the next level look like?

Hi all! What are the differences between senior/staff SWE and software architects? Are architects still a thing? I'm causally searching for a new position (my job had a 50% layoff last month and the survivability of the company is sketchy) and I've noticed senior and staff SWE roles sound like they have a lot of architectural designing and leadership responsibilities while not focusing on coding as much. Is this normal? I love mentoring, but I also don't wanna be in meetings all day. 😕

My spouse and I are filing taxes for the first time; I'm a US citizen earning $100k, he's a non-US resident who made $20k last year. We have no children, but I have $300k in student loans and am on the Income Based Repayment plan. How often can I switch my filing status? Will IBR accept it?
