How has COVID been impacting your personal life (e.g., childcare management, cabin fever), your firm and/or clients beyond WFH (e.g., layoffs, funding, project delays, unpaid leave, etc.)?

SO much coordination with my spouse on who’s managing our young kiddo. It’s basically, which meetings are absolutely essential (and pray we don’t have conflict), which are more flexible where a kid can babble in the background, and where are the open pockets. Also, very firm conversations with my manager. I cannot neglect my child, I will not scramble and risk child care from strangers, and I will make sure clients are aware that we’re all doing our best in these uncertain times.

That's hard when it sounds like both you and your spouse have demanding professional roles. It's must be a "fun" (sarcasm) game every night to compare calendars for the next day lol. Agreed, your child should be your priority and if your manager doesn't understand then that's not a firm you want to be at.

Thanks for the space to vent at a risk free zone. It is hectic and crazy to WFH with a 3 year old and constant food preparation duties. Work day starts at 7am and extends after hours because there is so much work and distraction of wfh. It is stressful enough said. On the positive side, I love not having to be put together for work, spending extra time with kiddo in the evenings and lunch hour. Trying to manage stress by doing yard work later in the day when sun is still out ( typically I return from work after it is dark most days). Looking for warmer weeks ahead where I can squeeze in a walk in stroller in the evenings/post lunch. I am liking it kind of except for the work pressure which is there irrespective of covid. And yes project slippage on timeline because of impacted productivity will have funding impact later in q2. It is what it is!

OP, hear you on the budget challenges for new initiatives. Hopefully it will figure itself out.

We were going to move to a different state. Signed the lease and everything. Now in negotiations with the current and new landlord to defer the start given how unprecedented this situation is

Yikes! I am sorry to hear that! How has the situation been panning out so far?

I'd love to hear about any positives it's brought and the of course the challenges it's creating for you and your firm/clients. Looking forward to an interesting conversation. Thanks!

Wow, that sounds brutal. I can totally appreciate the extra time back to spend with your loved ones and relax for sure. Glad to hear you're enjoying it! Out of curiosity, where are you based with such a long commute? East Bay into SF? Central NJ into NYC?

Any good recommended books on how to build a scalable product and team? I'm looking for recommendations for two areas: 1) in general laying the groundwork in a startup to have the tools and especially processes in place to scale, and 2) tactical focus on building a SaaS project. I've been promoted into a management role from Dev roots, so need to learn more PM processes to be an effective manager in day job, plus would like to start building my own SaaS solution.

Over COVID, my boyfriend moved to Miami. Every time I come visit, all of his friends make me lose a LOT of hope in relationships. It is wild the things I’ve seen here. I do believe him in it not being his, but am I crazy for thinking it’s just best to step away for a bit? This Miami thing is a lot and if literally ALL of his friends shady in their relationships, what are the odds?
