Paycheck is the culture

Yep pandemic made all of us fall down to the bottom of Maslow’s hierarchy pretty fast (not judging, I’m there too)

Culture right now has to be all about respect and empathy; Respect for boundaries Respect for personal life/time Respect for mental health, anxiety, stress added challenge of life

I think a lot of us are cool with saving “company culture initiatives” for late 2021, or 2022. Right now we’re just trying to stay sane and employed. I’ve been giving side eye to these CDs and ECDs in my office talking about “If anyone wants to do a happy hour somewhere - no pressure, of course” “if anyone wants to meet in the office...no pressure.” It’s like, I get it bro, hard to look like an alpha dog when your pack isn’t physically there with you. Suck it up. Goodness, that turned into a rant.

But, how do you REALLY feel, lol?!

We’ve tried to do it with a few initiatives like online cooking classes, coffee hours and interviews with cultural influencers but attendance has been sparse. No one wants to get on another video call if they don’t have to.

The best part of BBDO was that there was no culture haha.

Depends what we mean by culture I guess. The culture of people first, checking in with employees, giving as much flexibility as possible has continued through the company communication and from the team leads. Some attempts at virtual get togethers but not much. I don’t think there is an easy way to keep that going in the current situation. You’re also risking forced ‘fun’ events which adds another call on people’s calendar. We had a fairly strong company culture so it’s continued at individual team level well. I do feel bad for new joiners (not that there has been much hiring) as it’s much more difficult for them to get a sense of and become a part of the culture virtually. If anyone has thoughts & ideas around that, I’d appreciate it!

Self 1- collaboration, flexibility, empathy, giving people the space to do things their way when possible, treating employees with respect, helping fund education initiatives, offering a wide range of training, company outings here and there. When all that is there, people create the culture themselves. If we all made a cut, do you think that would create culture?

Praising us in emails telling how how good of a job we’re doing. That’s all I need.

Office culture? That’s a term I haven’t experienced in a long time.

My agency’s culture stops at “soulless.”

“Company culture” always sounds like corporate speak for “spirit rally” and further confirms that agencies are like giant high schools.

We never had a company culture so we’re doing just fine.

Things are working nicely WFH. Very productive. Don’t need the forced culture from work but it is out there for those who do.

I recently changed jobs and my new 401K provider - Principal has very limited MF investment options. My prior employer’s 401K was managed by Fidelity and provided me access to a range of MF options. I believe that the fund options are negotiated by the employer and provider? Two questions. First - I have not rolled over my previous 401K to the new one. Would there be any problems. Second - is there a way I could move my current 401K to another (precious) provider?
