I have resigned to the fact my upstairs neighbor’s occupation is a baby elephant trainer. I wrote a polite note to keep it down with a bottle of wine. He was quiet for 2 weeks.

I can hear my neighbors upstairs doing it almost every night. Unfortunately that’s the downside of living in apartment blocks, thin walls- people can’t tip toe in their own home. You probably wouldn’t aware of your noise either and how it moves through the walls and how they feel about it.

likefunny

I for one would be amused if any colleague had background intimacy on a call. Everyone understands that these are unprecedented times. We are all working in sub-optimal situations.

Invest in an apartment with thicker floors, walls, ceiling. My first apartment t out of undergrad - got a place in some 1920s era building - not fancy - and never heard a peep from any direction. It’s my leading criteria for new places.

likesmart

Have you tried a white noise machine? I have one because I have thin walls and can hear my next door neighbor. LectroFan and Dohm are well reviewed by Wirecutter.

likehelpful

I blame the thin ceiling more than the machine. 3M earsoft ear plugs usually do the trick.

Mine bought a drum kit. 😩 Thats totally unreasonable for an apartment right?

funny

Totally unreasonable. Couldn’t they get a digital one and use headphones or something? Wtf is wrong with them??!

I thought you meant loud as in music or tv, could be difficult to control the sound of their step. Maybe they are heavier or thin ceilings/ floors idk seems difficult to control

My solution is moving.

Most new apartments are constructed out of really cheap material. They are likely walking around as someone normally would. You gotta get a place in a concrete building or live on the top floor
