When I stopped looking externally. Happiness is a paradox. We think we’ll be happy when we get more; more money, more stuff, more toys, more sex, more success, more whatever. In reality, it’s the opposite; happiness is a process of subtraction. Remove the things that bring you pain or discomfort or aren’t authentic to who you really are. And true happiness is found in giving, not getting.
By being content with what I have.
For me it’s been focusing on the present, letting go of the past and trying not to worry about the future . Easier said then done and I faulter often
One component of my happiness in sobriety has been really getting into/living in my body instead of trying to escape/destroy it with alcohol. I’ve fallen in love with yoga, tennis, hiking. My mind feels peaceful when I’m using my body to do what it’s made to do. I feel so grateful.
