How hectic has your life been as a mid-level/senior fund associate? I know it is deal/firm dependent, but have heard they it is very busy during the week, but weekends can generally be free (at least Friday night/Saturday). Moving from in-house, expecting a learning curve a bit, but probably just more of what I do currently.

I’m in a rather peculiar situation. I have been in the HR field going on 4 years, I have over 11 years of management experience, I got my PHR last year and I recently graduated with my MBA with a concentration in HR this month. I am ready for a more challenging role. However, there doesn’t seem to be much available at my current company. However, I am going on 5 months pregnant with the expectation of being out in October. I feel like once I mentioned my pregnancy I was in a holding pattern.

Why are lawyers less friendly as colleagues than non-lawyers? I’ve worked both in-house and in firms and noticed lawyers tend to ignore each other. Compared to the multiple corporate events and initiatives that was quite a choc when I realized people in BL just come to the office, sit down, work and leave without even trying to have a conversation.

What’s better? Being an M&A partner at a firm with PPP of $4-6M or PPP of $1-2M? Just thinking $1-2M is already plenty of money so if there’s some recovery of work/life balance as compared to the $4-6M PPP firms, which I assume would be the case, then I’d be drawn more to partnership at the $1-2M PPP firms. Any thoughts? Prefer my marriage over prestige

Help. Followed partners from V50 to V50 couple years ago. Haven’t been able to generate business. Not getting enough work from other partners, but have received very positive feedback when I did. I’m now more senior. I’m sole breadwinner for family of 4. I feel I made a terrible mistake joining the partners. I feel my career is over. I feel that I am going to lose everything. I’m in a terrible mental state. Having terrible thoughts. Feeling alone and no one can help me. Is there any way out?

A friend was told their firm will cut ties EOY if certain things don’t improve. Friend had planned to quit in the next year anyway (to start their own business), so there is no real incentive to bend over backwards. Friend’s goal is to keep the income for a little longer, but to minimize conflict / headaches. What’s the best move here? Wait until EOY and take the severance? Give 6 / 9 / 12 months’ notice now? Is there such a thing as too much notice? Could too much notice backfire?

Hi boys & girls!

Joined a big firm (Big4) not long a go and starting to feel like I got a good grip on my current work.

I've always been very technical, so I think that the only thing I am missing now is making sales. (I really wanna make partner)

Can any seasoned lawyer share tips and materials (i.e. books) which can help?

Would it be a good idea to join a Social Club where potential clients spend time? (gym/tennis/paddel/events)

Any advice welcome!

The beginning of quarantine was rough for me. I had a lot of work and was adjusting to wfh, and, tbh, would cry a lot. I got the hang of it and started feeling better last month. But now I am, seemingly randomly, emotionally overwhelmed again and getting very emotional almost every day. Am I the only one experiencing this? Not affecting my work, thankfully, but definitely my personal life and wellbeing. (BigLaw, NYC).
