"Not at all important." -Marcel, 2017
Professionally, extremely.
Personally, meh.
Feel like they're a necessary evil.
Aside from pay rises, they have also helped me get a visa to work here.
However, it annoys me that the work that wins feels almost formulaic, and that real originality and creativity isn't rewarded.
They don't mean anything. Until you win one. Then they do.
I just want something to polish and throw at people.
Gimme the cash instead!
I don't need them because I don't have then, if I had one it would top my resume and bring be no personal satisfaction. I can't imagine why we deserve awards and think it feeds into the self aggrandizement of the field, suckering us in.
So the thing is they really don't matter at all. Until they matter a lot. Advertising people who hire you as an advertising creative pay attention to them. My advice? Get as many as you can and don't buy into your own hype for getting as many as you can.
Awards equal freedom as a young creative. Later on not much as much.
Have never given 3 shits about them. I'd rather get the money.
Well put CD1
I think having a good portfolio holds a lot more weight. Unless you're a C-level.
Do people even look at portfolios anymore though? Sure, click click click, okay, that's some stuff. But after school, I've never sat down with a hiring CD and gone through my book.
