In regards to a CPA: It depends where you want your career to go. If want to stay in the firm not having one may limit you getting staffed on some projects but most likely won’t affect your progress if you are high performing. If you intend to leave you need to consider what options are attractive to you and whether or not you need a CPA for those. Most industry exit ops for forensic professionals don’t care about a CPA, but it won’t hurt you to have it either. A CFE is more beneficial to have if you intend on staying in forensic / Compliance world and way easier to obtain.
If you have an accounting degree, get a CPA. If possible why not get both? The CFE is really easy anyways.
All forensics related roles I’ve interviewed outside of PA required a CPA as well. They liked CFE too but CPA was important as well.
Consider it something that puts you above others that DONT have it in the hiring process. If 2 people are applying for the same job with similar backgrounds and one has a CPA they get the job. You’ll only get busier as your career progresses. You might as well go for it now while your firm covers the review software.
