You should definitely be asking what they think of your copy and they should definitely be interested in what you’re writing.
I always ask my partner their opinion on copy / what we should present copy-wise. Usually for scripts we both write and then collaboratively tweak and refine / sort from there. Sometimes they have an idea for a line or piece of copy as well and if it’s good or has promise we present or workshop it accordingly.
You should ask their opinion. They should give it. You should consider it. They should offer suggestions to be helpful. And the reverse is true with the art side too
all helpful! after an old partner hit me with a “you got it” when i was 9 scripts deep and asked if they had any thoughts i just figured ADs weren’t interested in the process 😭
If it’s a manifesto kinda thing I need to be locked in solo and show them after. But if it’s more of a sketch typa script we tackle it together

Two way street. You can show and ask. They should show you their visual and ask too. Don't feel compelled to have good opinions and give feedback. It's an open convo and learning experience for all. You'll help each other understand and appreciate the other's discipline so you'll be better CDs in future. I love the visual side of the craft and my partners appreciate it. They love to do a show and tell when I ask them how they did something.
I ask my partner often.
My partner and I write scripts together on a call while in google slides. I do most of the actual writing but it’s nice to have someone chime in about what’s working and someone to ask when you’re stuck. And also someone to figure out how to phrase the visual stuff I struggle to articulate. We come up with the concepts together beforehand, but this is how we actually make the written thing.
Always ask for their opinion. Up to you if you want to take it.
