How irresponsible would it be to spend ~2100 on a one bedroom apartment at 90k base? No debt, max out IRA, HSA, and most of 401k. I’m young but not sure if this is pushing it.

I make 87.5k and pay $2,000. I put 8% 401k and 6% stock options. I still save, go shopping , Europe vaca, and have a great social/nightlife. You’ll be fine. You’ll make more eventually and save even more then. You’re young so enjoy if.

Subway and gym. Wow 100 for social! That’s one night of going out for me in one week lol

If you are meeting your savings goals, this is just how you want to spend your “extra” money. If you like to spend time at home, cook at home, value having your own space - do it. This is about personal priorities.

like

Look - I have always prioritized eating out at fancy places and travel, but honestly I spend probably $500 a month on sushi. I prefer that to having a $500 better apartment - but I completely understand that others don’t.

So, review your spending. You should have a plan to build a 6 months emergency fund, and then have plans to make larger long term savings (like for a house) on top of the things you mentioned, but we all deserve to and can afford to have some fun money at that salary so if you prefer to put yours toward your apartment vs eating out, personal travel, drinks, events ect - you should do that! I know people who have happily made that choice.

Don’t do it. How much time do you spend on the road? Your money could be better spent or invested elsewhere.

Save it and spend it on leisure travels or savings for your own property

If you love the place then do it. It sounds like your mental ROI is higher with the value add from your home more than the alternatives others have suggested.

Definitely doable on a tight social budget

Where do you live right now ? Also, shared accommodation should get you one bedroom for 1500 in those cities - you have your room but share other facilities.

I pay 1200 for a one bedroom, what city are you living in?

I’m not sure 🤷🏽‍♂️ honestly, that would be better answered by people who live there. I’m not one to ever want to live in a city like DC. Closest I’d live is Baltimore, just because it’s by the water and I’d probably be able to get a house that’s affordable. None of those big cities really appeal to me.

Anywhere decent in the DC area is sooo expensive. Don’t forget to factor in parking (you said your “cars” plural).

Get a roommate. Save money early for a down payment on a 1 bed. Keep it under 1k if at all possible.

If you have a solid emergency fund, savings/ a plan for future goals like a down payment (maybe family money to cover for those things), then go for it. Otherwise, it will be really tough to save money and probably irresponsible.

Hi ,

How to decide between joining a India startup vs US startup

Indian startup ( Meesho ) is paying me 25 lpa(remote),while Us startup ( Turing) is paying me 35 lpa ( remo

What i got is in case of US startup , i won't be getting any benefits,i.e no medical insurance and all , just the salary, and would have to sort of have common hours with US employees (1 am)

While in Indian startup i fear for work culture, recent layoffs, poor WlB

My priorities are
1) Salary
2) Growth
3) WLB and culture

I’m in NYC and am looking around for other opportunities in healthcare. I was wondering what other institutions’ benefit packages are. How much do you all pay in premiums?

I currently have my partner on my EPO plan at MSK and pay about $88 total every two weeks. I just want to know what other institutions are offering (Cornell, Columbia, NYU, Mount Sinai, Flatiron Health, etc).

I have an offer from IBM, which I need to join from 30th June at Bangalore. Currently am at my hometown.
I asked the HR if there is any travel reimbursement and initial accommodation provided by them. The HR denied any such facility provided by IBM. And asked me to ask my manager once I have joined the company.
Any suggestions, as I have to travel only for the joining and traveling would be quite heavy on my pocket.

I recently started a job this past November as a Clinical Informatics Supervisor at a fairly large healthcare organization. The women working under me at the healthcare organization are twice my age. I can honestly say from day one I felt excluded. I experienced multiple occasions of insubordination and quite honestly, bullying. Now I’m being pushed out of my position, not fired. Now they have me sitting and doing nothing all day. I don’t know what to do.

For reasons that take too long to explain, I anticipate being in line for a massive tax refund next year. As such, how strongly should I consider converting traditional IRA funds to Roth?

I don't need the liquidity/cash that the refund would provide and I think it might be worth reducing what's in my traditional IRA so I can minimize any pro-rata issue when doing backdoor/mega backdoor conversions in the future. Appreciate any sense check of my thinking/logic. Thanks!!
