If the times are convenient, and cost is say 30-50% less (when you include all fees that’ll you’ll get with frontier and delta of transport between dca-iad), I’d consider them.
Otherwise, not worth it - potential irrops (more United options, and interline agreements) at least 2” less of leg room on a ~4 hour flight, smaller customer service footprint, no status (especially if you have it with United).
Rising Star
You have to fly Frontier to conclude that that it will be a one-time flight. Give it a go.
I haven’t flown it in about 7 years but am pretty sure it’s a plastic seat, 6 inch deep tray table kind of airline these days
It’s spirit of the west coast. You have to pay for everything and there is less leg room than your “traditional” airlines but, if you know what you’re getting into, it’s tolerable. It’s just so cheap.
LA making the good call on this one lol
We’ve taken it from Newark to Orlando several times. I have 2 kids so we can easily save $1k flying Frontier. It’s fine for a short flight. They do nickel and dime you to death and flight times/days are limited. But if you have flexibility and want to save some money, it’s not a bad option.
I’ve flown frontier several times and it’s been fine. One time my flight was cancelled and they didn’t have another flight out until two days later which was annoying. That was from a small airport to a med city though. Denver to DCA will have way more flight options.
Since you are going skiing definitely look at the baggage cost. That will quickly add up if you’re bringing skis or need to check bags etc
DCA to DEN has exactly two flights. So the chances of getting screwed with a cancellation are grave.
It’s not too bad, you just have to pay for all the accessories
I had a bad customer service experience but it was pre pandemic so probably not too relevant
I think it's sure to be different. I doubt it's better 😬 but based on my experience, 0/10 do not fly
Their seats are rock hard, fine for a 2ish hour flight but maybe uncomfortable for DCA-DEN. Their prices are usually great and I've had trouble-free experiences with them. I would fly them again, and at the same time I'd totally understand and support you wanting to fly United.
One little thing though: let's say their Frontier flight *does* run into problems. Would it cause you any issues being on your own? It might make sense for you to be chained to their problems, as weird as that sounds.
