I always assume that means that partner comp is "eat what you kill"

I always assumed it means they work with a lot of start ups.

I always assume that it means find your own work.

Can someone explain why everyone is so selfish in this country. If there not a ‘need’ to go out and do an activity, why are you doing it. Even if going to a spread out outdoor restaurant is considered safe, why increase the chance of someone could get sick by .001%. From my viewing, people just don’t care until they’re impacted by it (personally or family/friend) and that is the stupidest way to go about things

I’m at a crossroads where I determined I don’t want to be partner, but stay because I’m sales minded, like recruiting, training, etc...am ok at accounting but it’s extremely boring. As a single 29 year old male with no debt and a solid savings, does it make sense to stay on the safe route and go into a typical industry gig or go into something completely different such as recruiting, sales, project management? Any advice?

What firm has the best benefits? I know most firms don't match 401ks, but do any allow mega backdoor Roths? Do any firms have official sabbatical policies for associates? Long vacations? Actual 1800-2100 hour expectations (corporate) rather than being told you're below average at 2250?

Foreign LLM student here. I plan to take the NY bar exam in February. I’m thinking of taking a bar prep course (most likely Barbri). They offer two options: the “traditional” course (which lasts around 2.5 months) and an extended 6-month course. The difference in price is substantial – 2.5k for the traditional course vs 6k for the extended one. Any thoughts/recommendations on which one I should take? In case it is helpful, I come from a civil law country. Thanks!

What is an acceptable time period to sit on a lateral offer? I interviewed with multiple firms. One of them will likely take an extra week to get back to me. Is it okay to just sit on an offer for a week to hear from the other firm? Do I need to let the firm that offered me know that I’d like to hear from the other firm first? Or is it better to be vague and ask for more time?

I am a first-year in big law who started earlier this year. I am on pace to bill around 140 this month and I feel like I am not doing enough work. I’ve consistently reached out to partners but am not getting staffed on assignments. Today I did barely any work. I keep hearing about how slammed firms have been recently and am nervous that I’m not doing what I’m supposed to be doing. Is this a common enough experience when you first start out? What could I be doing differently to be more visible?

How do you ensure you don’t miss a call or email for a late night fire drill? I have insomnia, but once I sleep I sleep hard. I’m coming from a smaller lit firm to do M&A. Is there a special email tone you create to make sure you don’t miss late night emails by sleeping through them? Thanks!
