That’s a general aggregate of the country. When you break it down by state, city or even zip codes it varies greatly. $60k for a family goes a lot further in some southern and mid west states than NYC, SF, etc. and when you look at GDP per capita in the US which is approximately $62k is actually incredibly good. But, not everyone is going to make 6 figures alone. But, dual income plays into this and tons and tons of factors. But, at a minimum this bowl is hardly a fair representative of the entire US given the levels of education, skills, and market demand which rewards others better than some.

The median income in NYC is under $64K yearly. I think people here thinking they can't live in NYC on $100K have no idea about the basic facts of life for most Americans.
Also, these median incomes are household, so includes all those dual income (or triple as many people work 2 jobs in a family).
After 20 years in the school district my mom makes $7.55 an hour. She works three jobs to make ends meet. This is normal in rural America. ‘Work hard and you won’t be poor’ infuriates me. You can work hard AND be poor because of the systems we have in place.
I escaped the cycle. It was a hell of a lot of hard work but also a lot of luck. I’m not naive enough to think that everyone in my shoes who puts in the same effort will make it out of the cycle of poverty.

Damn BCG’s story made me put on Maino’s All the Above just now.
Do you see anyone on here posting with titles like janitor, bus driver, Walmart greeter? This is not a representative sample.
At Amazon they cost $0.
I feel like this is the same kind of person who votes against social assistance programs because they think poverty is just about not budgeting correctly...
M5- I’m not saying there’s none, but I recall very little math and english (I scored a 90). I do remember pattern recognition, problem solving (“what would be the best use of this tool?”), and some basic trades stuff. The bar is low- if you have any level of learning you should pass without a problem. I had a guy in my unit thats scored a 40. Nice guy but one of the dumbest I’ve ever met. (Sister was smokin hot though. Deep south- what a ride.)

How on earth can you be this out of touch...

Yeah. Only EY leadership has them beat imo.
How is it that it gets cold in antarctica? It’s 80 degrees in Houston right now.
D4 only sane answer so far!
We aren’t average. And I don’t make 200k unfortunately
99% of the people here do not make over $200k.
Associates, Seniors and Managers at big 4 don’t make 200. They make up for significant majority of all big4 staff.
Needless to say even they are not considered “average” American.

You gotta venture out of the consulting bubble.
There are a lot of Americans who are not in high earning white collar professions like us

People making less than 60K are usually not in these bowls.
That income for MBB in Mexico is not quite right. A 1st year Analyst (from undergrad) makes about 28k USD/yr, while a 1st year Associate (post-MBA) is closer to 100k USD base. To this you would add bonuses
We are by no means representative of the average population
What could a banana cost anyway? 10 dollars?
Some can go for up to 120k it’s all about context

A lot are also loaded up with debt.

Is it though? A senior consultant I worked with some years ago was making $130K, wore expensive clothes, had a Mercedes...then declared bankruptcy due to unpaid bills.
My point was that some people act like they make more than they do, and sometimes give falsely high numbers of asked to name a salary.
Not all of us make 200k.
Or even half that

How is it possible that this is a real post?
... and this is why we need diversity
Will you shut up man?

Joe go to bed. Back to your basement.
Because this group is not made up of “average America a” from an income perspective. Get outside the big cities, talk to blue collar workers, pay attention to the people who do all those jobs you rely on - definitely helps me appreciate things a lot more.

Do you really need to ask for help with this question?

How can such an inane question come from someone who ostensibly manages other human beings? 🤦♂️
