I was in AWM and it was busy season after busy season. Praying for you.
I was audit, left as an A2. I love it so far! I got lucky, I’m on a good team and my hours are wayyyyyyy less than PWC.
I do see growth opportunities - there are a lot of projects I am involved in, and could get more involved in if I wanted to. But I’m starting slow / easing my way into the role / setting reasonable expectations / trying to save my sanity after diving into PA and getting completely burned out, since I want to stay here longterm. Also I see growth opportunities bc of the space I’m in - working at a fintech company looks good on the ol’ resume.
I left PA because I couldn’t stand the hours. Growth trajectory isn’t as much of a concern for me. What happened was I got an amazing offer at a growing company, so it looked like the perfect opportunity to reduce my workload and work for somewhere that would look good on my resume if I wanted to leave one day.
Never ending busy season.
Even during the summer, when it’s supposed to be 40 hours, it’s not. The summer engagements end up running behind, you end up working 65-70 to catch up and then you roll right into the fall busy season. Good luck!
It was my old stomping grounds and before the focus on automation, I learned some good technical and built a pretty good foundation for my tax knowledge. That being said, I feel the direction of the group at least in the NE is more of a K1 sweatshop with high volume and tight deadlines, there hasn’t been much focus on the technical tax stuff but more of figuring out what TRACK or alteryx is doing wrong. Leadership has often stated that the automation would allow staff to focus on consulting issues but I haven’t seen that in the most recent years. From a salary perspective your better off trying consulting like M&A or ITS where the pay is better and the work imo is more interesting.
Run away
I interviewed with PWC and Deloitte and they were desperate. Originally offered S1 - 88k and 15k sign on and then bumped it to 92k / 15k when I told them I had a pending offer from Deloitte.
