How is the city doing mask-wise? Just got back from FL where Covid doesn’t seem to exist anymore and I’m taken aback by all the masking around the city still (particularly outdoors).

Outside I’d say the majority aren’t wearing masks but I also just saw someone by themselves in the park wearing an n95 on top of a surgical mask so it’s def a mixed bag. All the stores I’ve gone into have kept up their mask mandates as have my hair and nail salon. And I’d say the subway has about 90-95% mask compliance from what I saw today, even though it’s very hot.

My area of Brooklyn is largely unmasked outside. It definitely varies by neighborhood. But honestly who cares, whatever people have as their comfort level is fine. You don’t know if people have had family members pass, preexisting conditions, or simply anxiety at removing them.

Two things to add to your perspective : people with immunocompromised conditions have not been given the green light to stop wearing masks and some diseases are not visible to your eye. So perhaps the person double masked on the bench has a compromised immune system and feels more comfortable with it on. Parents of children who have not be approved to receive the vaccine also may make different decisions than a person that doesn’t have children.

Everyone keeps wearing them indoors and out!

A1, I was in the UWS and Central Park all day and not a single person yelled at me. Lots of older people didn’t have them on either.

Why does it matter to you if other people are wearing masks?

How long were you in FL? NY is adjusting fairly rapidly but was a lot stricter about masks everywhere for so long that it’s also somewhat ingrained habit now.

I think some of these habits may stick with me permanently. For example, if/when rush hour is back to normal - I think in flu season I’ll wear a mask on the subways during the commute. Just makes sense to me. I used to get sick so much.

I have not gotten a cold or flu all year, maybe due to masking and not being out. But I want to continue wearing a mask in winters around crowded transportation like trains even after Covid dies down.

HR professionals- are you requiring a negative test before any employees return to work after COVID? Some had very mild symptoms and one was asymptomatic. I’ve read not to push for a Dr.’s note and some people can still be positive yet not contagious. Right now I’m following the cdc guidelines of 10 days from first symptom, fever free for 24 hrs and improvement of symptoms.

I was due for a promotion but then covid hit, and during the peak of layoffs/furloughs, I was given the run-around that we have agency wide promotion freezes, etc. Over the past month, a handful of people have been promoted. I know everyone's situation is different but I can't help feeling snubbed. How do I know whether they are genuinely trying to promote me and can't, versus them stringing me along for as long as possible? I dont want it to come to having to bring another offer to the table..

16 weeks and so worried all of the stress I’m under is going to hurt the baby. Between work, my own scary (non-pregnancy) health stuff, the pandemic, my mom (who is a widow and lives alone, basically isolated by choice due to covid) is having health issues, and pressures to keep billable hours up, I’ve been having complete breakdowns. Today I spent almost the entire day crying and now have to make up the billable time this weekend. I really worry abt what effect this will have on the babe.

I’m thinking of quitting breastfeeding. My baby is 5 months old, and my pump just broke, and I don’t think she’s eating enough and she wakes up all the time at night hungry. I’m just tired of it. I’d rather just give her bottles and call it a day. Ready for my husband to take the night feeds, ready to be able to have a drink without worrying about when I have to feed the baby. The actual breastfeeding has been easy, which is why I feel guilty for “quitting.”
