great! I just got 6 weeks! I'm on my first business trip since drying out and man is it great to wake up without a hangover. there's a guy here with us who's all about "going for drinks". he and I would have been competing in the past for most drunk. now it's just like looking in a mirror and thinking wow was I annoying.

Doing ok! Woke up this morning relieved again to be sober. I’ve been on and off the wagon all summer and fall, though.

Working on fitness and taking a class in addition to work, so there’s no time at the moment for me to be drinking... but knowing me this isn’t a forever solution. So I’m going to meetings and sharpening my tools.

I just tried to go to a meeting while on the road (Atlanta); couldn’t find the meeting, but am happy I was willing to go if I could find it. Sobriety starts with just a little bit of willingness, and last week was 20 months for me.

One of my favorite places to go to meetings was Atlanta on the road!! Triangle is the location. It was a huge part of my baby steps into sobriety.

32 months last Sunday. Brand new to consulting. Just trying to stay above water and still get to at least 1 meeting every week. Happy hours have been tough...not tempted to drink but I’m in my early 20’s so people are always pushing me to drink. A firm “no thanks” helps but it’s still uncomfortable for me.

Does not change the fact that getting sober is the only reason that I am still alive, fulfilled and achieving.

Ah man but imagine keeping your head above water while hungover or trying to fit in the time to drink. Sometimes I'm shocked at how much more time I have now.

OP how are you doing?

Took a benzo last night because I thought it would make me a more lively date.. in reality it just made me tired. Back on the wagon I guess.

Just thinking ... we would have had a much better response overall to COVID if someone had said back in February: “China just activated 10,000 assassins to specifically target Americans over 70 years of age.” If we had found that credible, we would have hidden away all of our older family members while going about our lives. People would still die, but probably 80 percent less and we wouldn’t have noticed it.

Hi all! I’ve been curious if any entry level data analyst roles or anything similar out there exist that train you for the position. A little about my background. I currently work in Finance. And my former experience involved data manipulation but I never worked with any languages myself. I also have a 4 year degree. I’m starting to feel I’m not where I want to be at my age and want to transition into something that will get me to 6 figures or as close as possible. Open up advice!

I currently work at a small PI firm in Atlanta were EVERYTHING is settled presuit. If we’re unable to settle, then it’s referred to another firm for litigation. This whole process seems very atypical to me and the attorneys rarely touch a file until the first liability offer is received. The paralegals handle everything from intake to drafting the demands. The attorney briefly skims (does NOT read) the demand packages and signs. Is this ethical?? Anyone else work at a firm that is run this way??

It’s been 6 months since I’ve last had a cigarette. The process was pretty seem-less, with no cravings. However, this past has been especially difficult. My sister came to visit and she’s a smoker, she really needed a cigarette while driving, now since I caught whiff of the smoke, this past week has been my worst with cravings. Tips to cope, so far— I chew gum to help.

My son is about to go to college. His dad passed away when he was 8 and had an addiction to alcohol. I am so scared he is going to enter college life and become addicted to things after being curious. We have talked about it many times, but teenagers think they know everything and are invincible. I have told him there is a 50% chance he got the addiction gene and he needs to be careful. When I went to college I partied and tried it all, but I got lucky not getting addicted. Any advice?

I’ve already had cervical cancer (last year) and have been cancer free. Now have a hormone replacement specialist I have to see annually. Yesterday was the visit and she randomly decided to do a breast exam and found a lump. Couldn’t get me in for a diagnostic mammogram until next week. Came home and relapsed - it was not a full-on bender but I drank. How do I not beat myself up and just get up and keep going? Alcohol is the WORST thing for any cancer esp breast cancer. WTF is wrong with me!?

I quit drinking at the first of the year because I was drinking too much as a way to cope with Covid. 99.9% of the time, I’m glad I quit drinking. And then there are those nights when I just want a glass of something to take the edge off, which makes me think alcohol was more of a coping mechanism than I thought and it’s probably a good thing I’m not drinking. I don’t even like wine very much, but I miss that low level buzz that makes everything a little less loud.

My boyfriend of a year got a DUI this weekend and has had drinking problems in the past. He fully admits he is an alcoholic, and will do therapy/go to AA moving forward. My therapist suggested I be a “computer program running in the background” and essentially leave him to allow him to work on himself. This is obviously a really hard decision, and I feel like I should listen to my therapist, but my heart is pulling me the other way. Anyone else been through something similar or have advice?

My first holiday season sober. This is really hard. Don't like having to turn down invites to events I know I would be tempted to have a drink at. Having to tell people not to gift me nice bottles (something I loved for years) because I'm sober, the whole thing honestly just makes me feel lonely and frustrated. Don't relish having to explain it to family at Christmas either. This sucks!

Reached 6 months yesterday after finally realizing that if I allowed it to, alcohol could and would destroy my life and take away everything that I love. I was so afraid that I wouldn’t be able to have peace and comfort without it (insanity, right?). The past 6 months have been the happiest I have ever experienced. My everyday moments with my children are more meaningful, I lay next to my wife knowing she is proud of me and I wake up the next morning without shame. Gratitude!

By chance anyone needs it this Sunday. Don’t punish yourself for the things done whilst drunk. Chemically you are not the same person, your whole brain is altered, who could expect for it to make the same decisions. And Alan Carr is the book I always go back to - remember every time it gets easier because you know what to do and you learn!

I’ve been sober a year now, and someone recently reached out to me about not drinking. When I suggested AA, he said ‘washed out people with nothing to lose’ wouldn’t comfort him. And that it was a ‘scared straight’ approach. I know his is a super harsh and ignorant opinion, but I just want to say if you hold it, it’s so far from the truth. Regardless of age, I’ve met some of the coolest unique people I’ve ever come across in aa, and I just felt sad people might hold that opinion of it in 2021
