What is the bonus structure at your firm? I work at an IP boutique in patent and trademark prosecution. Our billable is 1850, which sounds nice except that patent prosecution is done on fixed fee so you can only bill so many hours per project. Bonus structure is gross salary divided by 1850 times hours over. So ex, $95 hourly x hours over 1850 and then taxed.

When I first got into PA the managing partner at the small firm stated they preferred to avoid 1040 only clients because they can take up a lot of time and the margins are small.
