Hi New York! This year we are opening an office in the city – we’re a UK-based brand language agency (reedwords.com). We’re keen to find two people to get it up and running.
We need an experienced brand writer who can develop business and impress senior clients, and an experienced General Manager-type person to manage the running and marketing of the office, look after clients and develop new business.
Very grateful for any interest, intros or recommendations. Thank you!

I see your point. On the other hand, that person was deemed qualified and worth the $ by the competition, so they should be able to occupy the same role at your agency. There’s also the factor that retaining with a counter offer still saves money in that you don’t have to recruit, interview and train someone new.
To answer your question, my agency seems to be placing the blame on the great resignation, saying “it’s happening everywhere” and as a result losing on opportunity for reflection.
I’m not sure where my particular team is falling on retention, but if I get the offer I am currently courting and they try to retain me, I can’t see it as being anything but an empty title & pay bump. 2/4 of us in my role are already seniors, and honestly there are 4 of us doing the work of just 2-3 people. So I’m just not particularly keen on being the third senior on a team of 4, that is waiting on work half the time.
Yea exactly, my agency used to make it a point not to double up on ADs and VPs on accounts that didn’t have the work to warrant that but now we’re seeing that happen more and it’s diluting what it used to mean to be an AD.
Seldom does a counter offer pay off. It's a bandaid and typically I see those same people leave anyways in a few months. I think they should be used selectively for the people who really matter and where you think it can actually solve the reasons why someone was looking.
Ditto. Lots of pay rises and title bumps to novices who will be doing the same day to day as they were last year but getting paid more for it. Go figure.
Baffling. Serious lack of leadership nous too.
