How late (a.k.a. off the clock) is everyone working? I get calls and emails well into the late evening and sometimes later. Should I put up boundaries and stop responding after a certain point?

I don't. I don't work for free. My day ends at 5. All calls and emails are responded next day during my business hours.

Occasionally I answer a text or a quick call on the weekend or late at night. Nothing crazy 2-5 minutes max. Those 2-5 min save me hours of craziness next day at work. It's about finding balance, but if this is a daily occurrence, you are being scammed to work for free.

My day ends at 4:30. I’m out of the door at 4:25 (my company allows us to clock out 5 mins earlier. Stop working for free!!! Remember your time is valuable

Absolutely implement some boundaries. Hard boundaries. Im talking DND on the phone and hard cutoff times on your email responses especially if you’re salary.

Your time is valuable. Is there an on-call expectation? Or a covering team/manager?
Unless it is a true emergency then things can wait. It is difficult to close the door once you open it when continuing to answer calls after hours.
Best of luck

10 PM.

I answered calls into the evening because I had direct reports with urgent issues, unavoidable in my previous role. I also responded to emails late in the evening to alleviate my workload the following day. I was just too busy at the time and didn’t want to delay or forget to respond. This was just my experience though. Whatever works for you.

Depends if you are exempt or non-exempt, your role and the expectations. I think healthy boundaries are necessary. Unless you are working in an emergency room, nothing really is an emergency. Reflecting back to your late nights, were they really necessary? Could you have restructured your day or block off time during the day to complete those things? Maybe there is too much on your plate? Can you delegate? Unfortunately work life balance isn't set by the company, it's set my all of us because we only have our own back, no one will go to bat for us. Do what you need to protect yourself and give yourself enough rest and relaxation. We work to live, not live to work. Hope you are able to find the balance and create those healthy boundaries. Good luck!

Yes. Do not work for free. If you answer occasionally to put out fires or address urgent issues, you’ll get compensated through pay increases or bonuses. If you do that every night, you’re working for free. Salary is based off 40 hours of work.

I'm done at 430 pm at the latest.

Have my closing interview with Accenture next week. So far the Director and MD I have met with have both liked me and the recruiter has said that they have both given me a thumbs up and that the upcoming closing interview with the MD is just a conversation. From my research I’ve also read that it’s just a sanity check to make sure I’m not a nutcase. Of course anything can happen, but I’m expecting an offer. (Cont)

Hey,

I interviewed for a practice manager position. This was an interview with the director. This went well. She now wants me to meet with the staff and doctors in person for a second round.

Anyone that’s ever done this, can you let me know what to expect? The types of questions to ask the doctors. How I should be interacting with the staff as their prospective manager?

I am a practice manager and I work with two older doctors who either complain about everything from notes to schedules etc. and even with the amount of time and effort I’ve put into to address those concerns I.e. setting admin time, utilizing PA’s and NP’s managing schedules within the office- even had to sit next to a doctor to make sure he’s completing his notes during 30min admin time- they still manage to complain! It’s driving me insane. What should I do?
