Left my B4 for another with 135k base + 15k sign on and rejected a counter offer of 118k salary + 36k bonus 3 YOE - thoughts?
Hot take: Leaving big 4 consulting and joining middle market firm (A&M, GT, etc.) does not, I repeat, does not mean less hours.
Is it viewed as “not good” to go back to my alma mater for MBA? It’s a top 40 business school and got me into B4 consulting easily. School has strong recruiting presence in the region I want and I have a full ride for their FT program. Appreciate any thoughts!
Would you leave an amazingly supportive group of people at big 4 to restart the hustle at another big 3?
Working at a B4 and trying to get a return offer in a different group from the one I’m interning with. I’ve been networking crazy, but the recruiter says she has to see if my profile matches first. How can I take matters into my own hands to pivot?
Likely moving from EY to an M&A tax role at Alvarez & Marsal. I’m wrapping up my third year as a manager at EY in a niche practice. Trying to understand the levels at Alvarez. Should I be shooting for director or senior director? How do the 2 levels really compare to the levels at Big 4? Alvarez & Marsal
I have FAR and REG left for CPA. Not sure I really want to stay in Big 4. Want to move to Corporate Finance, FPA, or IB. Thinking of just pausing CPA and studying for GMAT. Never given time to study f
Any advice?: Just finished long term W2 freelance role (since Jan) + I also have a small 1099 side project that‘ll be finishing up in 2ish wks. If we are talking >10k on 1099 (i.e. not enough to justify filing for SCorp) + <160-200k on W2 — is there any real tax advantage of opening LLC vs paying me directly outside of the “protects personal assets if ever sued”, etc? Technically I *could* open LLC quickly b4 invoicing- but dunno if worth $ to do so for such small amount of 1099 coming in?
Anyone have success returning back to their Big 4 firm but in a completely different competency? I was tech before but want to come back into business
Am I a failure if I remain a senior associate for 5 years? Came in as part of an acquisition. Never really wanted the big 4 life and feeling like I don't have what it takes. Also in my 30s.
Doing my first exploratory call with another Big 4 recruiter soon. What should I ask them?
When are background checks done to verify current employment at B4? Also do they contact HR or your manager, worried if they would give a bad review, they don’t know I’m leaving (I’m in industry)
Do people throw other people under the bus a lot in big 4 ? is it it a lot in public accounting in general
Have Deloitte promo timelines gotten considerably longer recently? Have heard about: A -> C = 3 years, C -> SC = 4 years, SC -> M = 4 years. Is it the same across other B4 firms?

Hey 🐠! I have an interview tomorrow with a boutique to do business development for their North American practice. Just looking for any last minute tips on what I should cover. I have researched their services, prepped examples from my background, and why I’m specifically interested in them.
Do you take interviews even if you’re not super interested in the agency, just to see/create connections? Or is it better to not take the interview, save everyone’s time?
Anyone else finding it very difficult to get any enjoyment out of account management these days? Any coping tips? I feel like being an account person is especially difficult in the COVID era since so much of what we do is manage communications, ensure the team is set up well etc. None of this feels particularly fun alone staring into the void of Zoom all day ... but the same pressure is still there. I feel like I spend every week counting down to the weekend which kinda sucks.
Lots of articles say it’s meaningless/less impactful to begin a convo with the typical “hey, how are you?”...What’s your take here? Let’s say you have an interview and the recruiter will call you at 9am. How do you answer the phone?
