How long after returning from a 12 week maternity leave did you feel fully back engaged at work? I feel like I'm starting as a brand new employee with all that changed/ happened since I left and...

I agree with @CD1: it may not be that things have changed, but that you have changed.

I live in Canada where the maternity leave is 12 *months* and it was rough. Work honestly hadn’t even changed all that much, but my self awareness about my own limits and work style (was a night person before, hella morning person now etc.) needed a reboot. That adjustment was tough and clumsy.

I’d try to learn what your new normal is, and would suggest focusing on observing yourself, your limits and energy through the day, and then trying out new working styles rather than measuring yourself against your old self and style.

Also part of it is just getting used to slightly disappointing either your job or your family or yourself all the time but that’s honestly a pretty great tradeoff because family love is the boom boom sweetness if you’re into that.

I def felt behind and slow for months and it was tough. I think my brain was legitimately on a different speed, let alone the different motivation.

Everything changes and you don't get put back together in the same way--so don't expect it. Eventually, you'll be stronger, more efficient, wiser and more calm than you were--if you don't try to force your old self into a new reality. Be gentle to yourself. Try not to get overwhelmed by the feeling that you're not 100% for your work and for your kid. That feeling sucks and you just have to push thru it. Read a little bit about how kids with working moms are successful, work as hard as you. Can at the office and turn off your email notifications at night. You got this, mama!

Totally feel you. It was so hard to come back. Everything was the same, but I had totally changed. It took me maybe 6 months to get my bearings. Some days are still hard, but we’re in more of a routine now, so that helps.

6 months to get the hang of things again

Hi all. I am licensed in life, accident and health and am looking for new opportunities. I’ve been working in employee benefits in a small brokerage firm on a book of business of over 400 clients, I’m the only account manager. We’ve had 100% employer retention since I’ve been here. I am a high performer, but not sure I’m valued much at all . I want to reach the top and become partner in my career ; this is why I went to work for a small firm. My boss favors others when I do the most work!!

Recent law grad here, looking for a firm job. Can others share what I should be looking for in a compensation package nowadays? What's typical and what's not? (e.g. 401k match, health/dental/vision, paid time off, vacation). And how does that change based on: small firm, midsize firm, big firm? Thanks in advance!

Any parents here who really struggled after the arrival of a new baby? It was a planned pregnancy, but after 2 years of this new life, I feel trapped and I feel like this is not the life that I wanted. I know I'll probably get a lot of mean comments here. Looking for anyone who might have experienced this to share their stories/outcomes/what you did. Thanks.

Does anyone’s firm offer any benefits related to sustainability or rewards for practicing a sustainable lifestyle?

Thoughts on the mother of the bride wearing white to the bridal shower? I (bride to be) would like my mom to wear a white dress she already has because it’s flattering on her and has a similar style to mine which I think would look cute but she’s worried that she shouldn’t wear white and what others might think. Wanted to see what others think of this, thanks!

This would be my 3rd, but need some input. I am 10 dpo (guess) and I just wiped some reddish brown discharge. It’s like mucus/veiny consistency. I have had cramping pain yesterday and today. I’ve never had implantation bleeding, but could this be that? Baby dust please. It’s been a 4 month journey up until now from getting off the minipill and no positive or af…this is the first sign of anything.

What would you do in my wife and I’s situation? We have zero debt, and a 15 year mortgage with 170ishk left around 1200/month. I already contribute 15% to my 401k. After all that and taxes we bring in around 9.5k per month. We plan on being in the home the next 4-5 years. Would you pay off the house aggressively in 4 years? OR would you start opening up conservative mutual funds to keep investing on the side of the 401k? New to this and my parents never had these ops.

Hi Guys,
Can anyone help me with an information on how EY INDIA provides variable to employees. I know it's 0-20%, so is it monthly ? or what kind of measures they consider in order to provide variable pay.
Also, suppose the package is 6 Lakhs, so can we say that the package is 600000 + 20% of 6 Lakhs = 720000. (As EY has 20% variable Pay)

Thanks in Advance !

Why is it recommended you give a company 2 weeks notice when you are leaving but at the same time, when they are laying you off/firing you, they typically do it on the spot. I have known countless people layed off/fired on the spot over the years (especially after busy season) and everyone else when they leave give 2 week notice. Why should we relinquish power to corporations? Corporations really don't care about us. They pretend they do.
