Focus on getting good work produced
This is not a definite timeline. Listen and absorb as much as possible. Be someone people enjoy working with. And like CD1 said, focus on getting good work produced. The promotion will come.
If that’s the case, then 1 to 2 years if you produced something great in your book. Could take three years if you haven’t. I produced something in a year and used that to get another job. A small bump in pay and lost the 'junior’ out of my title. I hope this helps. Good luck JAD.
I feel like you're asking this question because you've been working hard like what CD1 and 2 said and you're still waiting. The average time is anywhere between 1 to 2 years. And Don't expect them to give it to you. Just ask if you think you're ready.
Keep it up. My advice is to not wait for briefs. Be proactive and bring your CDs ideas that you love
Technically I'm a Junior, so I see I might have a little way to go.
Maybe closer to 3-4 years.
Depends on quality of work, maturity, dependability... lots of things. Not just time.
Focus on the work, not the title and it comes faster. And don't just ask for the title. Tell them you're very ambitious and want to know what you can do to earn the title? Anything extra? Improve something you're doing now? Couch the conversations in self improvement, not an ask for a title.
rule of thumb: 3 years between titles (until ACD to CD, then it’s dependent upon your management skills)
that’s why there’s a 3-year itch with creatives. they jump ship to get promoted
but it’s totally variable.
