Hello Everyone! Does anyone have a connection at Netflix ! I am an author/marketing associate and truly my dream job is to work on the team that creates/produces Drive to Survive. I am a huge F1 fan! However, I am willing to start where I can and work my way there! I was laid off due to Covid and just trying to get back into the field and industry I love.

I think a better goal is to get student work to the bottom of your portfolio. You need to produce real work. When you produce something good, put it in your book and get rid of a meh student piece. But if you have one or two student pieces you like, just get them down to the bottom and you don’t need to be in a rush to get rid of them when you add new produced work
agree. don’t need to get rid of it necessarily but i get sad when i see someone 3-4 years into their career and student work is still above all the produced stuff because they’re clearly only proud of their spec work
I think it depends on the work. I’ve seen books where the student work was so well done you couldn’t even tell it was actually student work. If no one can tell the difference and the idea is strong, keep it in.
My last agency hadn’t actually produced work worth putting in your book for years. So I tend to be pretty non-judgmental of student work and spec.
Oooh. A few years. Maybe 4 lol. I also think it depends on how many campaigns you want to show in your book. I noticed there’s been a trend to show fewer projects that are better produced rather than the quantity dump. I’ve usually kept around 9-12, which seems to be in the middle range.

2.5 years out of ad school i had 6 produced pieces i liked but still included my best student project and 2 personal projects
